Quote from: 'jens coins' pid='93182' dateline='1469361094'How about this seller selling the carded coins in a box:

This is bullshit. I passed those along to Ross, since I was already grumpy about the refusal to swap loose coins for bags.

The seller has the box of carded coins and a full bag of blue coins up on ebay.

On one hand there are complaints that one person can get too many.
Then there are rules to limit someone getting lots of coins and you get complaints about the limits.
I don't think it is possible to keep everyone happy.
Some people would want a limit of one per person ever, others would want a free for all and to collect (and/or sell) sacks.
What limits (or not) should be applied?
I think with no limits there would be more people profiteering.
They would round up all they could get thier hands on (which would as a consequence restrict supply to other people).
I think for fair and equitable distribution, limits are good.

Doing a little maths...
It looks like there will be about 2,000,000 of each color made.
That is $4,000,000
If there is $2000 per sack, then 2000 sacks would be made of each colour.
Where there is money to be made,  people will break laws (let alone an instruction from a boss).  What proportion of coins/bags/sacks would end up on ebay with good controls on place to try to stop that happening?
Short of putting a security guard in charge of distribution of each sack, I don't think you would stop it.  Even then it would not be guaranteed. Who would be willing to pay for a guard for each sack?
If 99.5% (which is a very high proportion) of sacks don't end up on ebay, that would still be 10 full sacks out of 2000.
Edit: updated numbers to reflect mintage of 2,000,000

Well it all begins again today with the release of the black coin . Just picked up a dozen from woolies , nice design just like the blue pity about the scratches on most of them but the cards come out on the 27th so lets hope they are of better quality

Seems the folders are out at some stores (FaceBook) and come in four designs ?

Hi,
regarding the earlier discussion on the mintage of the colored Olympic $2 coins and reading the media releases on the RAM web site I interpreted this as there being 2 million of each color.

Am I missing something here or am I correct in thinking it will be 2 Million of each?

Copied below from the related RAMINT web site

Media Release

From today, one of 12 million Rio 2016 commemorative $2 coins to be released over the next month could make it from the Woolworths checkout to your pocket. The coins will be released exclusively through Woolworths and customers could find one in their change at the checkout.

The collection includes five Australian Olympic coins, each designed to showcase one of the Olympic Rings, and one Australian Paralympic coin, Australia's first ever multi-coloured $2 coin.

Thanks mkonst  - I missed that info on mintage.
I will update my example calculation in my last post.

Quote from: 'Ozcoins' pid='93196' dateline='1469400918'On one hand there are complaints that one person can get too many.

The complaints are when someone is obviously breaking embargoes and getting entire sacks and/or boxes early. Because that's a clear breach of trust. The people doing this are not customers, they're employees.

Instead of designing a system to deal with these, they've imposed conditions which make it impossibleharder for genuine collectors but leaves the gate wide open for the scumbags.

QuoteIt looks like there will be about 2,000,000 of each color made.

2,500,000 = $5 million, in sacks of 500 = $1,000. 5,000 sacks.

Today's effort produced 1 bag plus 17 loose coins. Half the stores demanded purchases for a random CHANCE of a coin. I've put those stores on my 'Do not shop here EVER again' list. I also picked up three bags of blues as swaps for loose coins. From stores which were hoarding them earlier in the week. I can see that it will be impossible to obtain equal numbers of coins across the six weeks.

The sets are being minted ON TOP OF the 2.5 million. It seems stores are being allocated as many boxes as they are sacks. So a small store with 4 sacks has 4 boxes. Assuming this is even across the board, that would be 5,000 boxes of 25, so 125,000. Double it to allow for dealers and direct sales, which gives a minimum total of 2.75 million. If they really are unlimited, they could go over the 3 million mark fairly easily I'd say.

Yeah, they go black when you forget to turn the stove off. Eventually they catch fire and burn the house down. ;)

(Mum left some chicken pieces on the stove for 5 hours last night. Not pretty. :dodgy:)

Doubtful.

Just managed to swap one bag, and picked up 2 blacks, 2 blues and a 2015 MoR.

Also, every bank at chaddy now gets Armaguard rolls, so that's the end of UNC bags. BankWest did have a big bag of foreign coins, but it turns out they donate them to charity. Which is a nice gesture. Who owns them again?

Definitely not. It is just fancy packaging to me. I carefully cut it open and put the coins in flips. I stash the packaging away in a shoebox. Not sure why because when i shuffle of this motal coil i'm sure someone will just dump the lot in the garbage.

Cheers Mike

Yey! I got 3 black ones and 1 blue one from Woolies today. Showed it off to the other kids at work. I asked for a whole bag if they could spare it, the checkout girl smile and said no.

I think $15 for the folder with all 5 coins and $3 for the multicolour one is a good price. For god sake only $1 more than face. If you miss out with Woolies you only need to pay a bit more to get it. You can also get it from a dealer to save postage.
