I just added that to the discussion I've been having with Ross. This crap has to stop. Hopefully the AFP can nail all these pricks who break the embargoes.

Grrrrr.... And with an open ended mintage, who knows how many the final number will be? 3 million, 5? 10? (yeah, I know, 10 won't happen, but 4 or 5 is realistic.)

I just don't see what the AFP might do.
Wouldn't an embargo be a contract agreement (assuming it's actually in a contract somewhere)?
Why would police get involved with a breach of contract issue?

They got involved because the mint asked them to. They will investigate and determine if any laws were broken, and if they have a case, they'll press charges. But even if they don't, they will identify the wrongdoers, and if they had unfair access by virtue of being employees, well, you can bet they won't be for long.

This is really no different than a mint employee who smuggles out mint sports. Even if they've replaced them with other coins to balance the books, so its technically not theft, its still wrong, and has consequences.

I don't know for certain as I have never worked in the industry But wouldn't these people that work for the security companies responsible for the distribution of our coinage have to agree to and sign a legally binding document that would cover the codes of conduct for this particular industry??

So if a case cannot be brought against these Miscreants for breaking Federal or State laws then Maybe a civil case could hold water for Breach of Contract ?

I would expect that creating "mint sport" is likely a crime in its own right.
Needing to ascertain  "were any laws broken" for breaking an embargo seems to be starting from pretty shaky ground.
Don't get me wrong - people doing the wrong thing should be stopped, I just don't know what could be done.
If I was running a company with a product and wanted a specific release date, I would write up a contract for the distributors to agree to. If someone broke that agreement I am not sure how much I could actually do about it, other than saying "No more products for you".  Maybe that is what needs to happen?

The introduction of a Commemorative $2 in 2012 with the Poppy coin both plain and coloured and the different coins issued since  has no doubt added new collectors to the hobby which is a good thing.
However these coins have also been the cause of a pronounced increase in the many scams and unethical behaviour  that has surrounded these issues since their inception and this is a very Bad thing for the hobby in the long run.

In my opinion these coloured coins are pretty much a two edged sword for coin collecting in Australia.
On one hand they are responsible for creating a renewed interest in numismatics.
On the other hand they have opened up a huge can of Worms with an ever increasing number of people with little or No integrity that are taking advantage of these newer collectors.

I think that at the end of the day these $2 coins may do more harm than good to the hobby in the long term.
