well I am HAPPY
the hubby went down to pick up our burgers for dinner and the lad at the wolverine service desk let him swap $2 coins for the bluey, he had to have two dollar coins though

2 for 2
so I am now the proud owner of a Bluey!!! YIPPIEE (plus the hubby got a kiss too )
and that is what it is all about
Voila ... my chicka dees

Megs looks a tad disheveled mind you

ps - i think if the RAM upped the anti on their distribution tenders and insisted on integrity of the handlers we would see a very different post market picture

It wouldn't even be very hard to do. Just direct Armaguard to drop a sack at every branch. Like they did with Woolies. What? Not enough coins to go round? F%&$ING MAKE MORE THEN!!! I mean, they turned out 12 million of these total, plus the various 'premium' Granny-Bait versions, so clearly they have the production capacity to drop a sack in every branch in the country. Put a hard embargo date on it, publicise it, and let the collectors go wild. The news stories about lines around the block should be good advertising, just like they are for Apple every time they launch something. But then, Apple have more than a few smarts about this stuff.

This bullshit about putting one in every pocket is just that.. bullshit. 99.999% of the population don't give a damn, and never will. So look after the collectors you've got rather than pissing them off looking for new ones you'll never get.

I am sooo glad that I decided to not take part in any of these ridiculous RAM 'promotions'.

I will never buy or acquire any more of the coins that are distributed in this way. I don't even care that they are supposed to be 'circulation' issues.  I don't want any of them.

I'm done!

I do empathise with your anger and frustration about all these $2 commemoratives and the way that they have been distributed since their inception Nancy.
However I don't think that RAM is the main culprit here, The "Bottom Feeders" that have found various ways around RAM's attempts to fairly distribute these coins have a lot to answer for here :ok:

It is a shame because these coins are rather nice and the detail found on them for such a small coin is quite impressive.
The 5 coin set that RAM will be selling at face value + $5 packaging and handling is a pretty fair option as they could have easily upped the ante on these and would still be able to sell them.
This to me shows that they are at least making an attempt at curtailing the secondary markets profiteering that always accompanies a release of these particular coins.

Coin collecting is a great hobby
Some people here take it wayyy to seriously
Buy what gives you enjoyment

One of the 5 coins that I have spare has been claimed.
This leaves 4 left for collectors that are unable to get these from Woolies :ok:

I understand your frustration Nevol,  I was really angry too

but i must admit I melted when the hubby excitedly handed me the one he acquired - he knew it would cheer me up (may have been more of the way the gift giver presented it) but it did cheer me up as I thought I was not going to get one , perhaps I focused too much on the amount that have not made it out to the public the way they were supposed to

perhaps trout is right and the RAM are trying to get the coins out in alternative ways but I do think that they could control the distribution a lot more, after all they are an arm of the government and the law makers

Not for much longer if these muppets in Canberra get their way. :(

Mind you, I can't wait for the day thy sell off the government itself... then at least we'll have an Annual General Meeting to attend, with free tea and bikkies, and the chance to dump the board and CEO. :dodgy:

i thought that was called an election although you do have to pay for your own sausage sandwich

maybe they should have distributed the blue coins through all of the school BBQ's - imagine the lines

lots of witnesses to make sure the coins were given out the right way

I vote for election booth coin distribution at ALL the schools

i might even write them a letter suggesting it

What about all us postal voters RG :)
No matter how hard RAM tries to distribute these coins fairly the Pond Scum will always find a way around it.

ok I have a different opinion on the matter.
I think that the way Ram has engaged Woolworth to distribute the coins is a great solution to the problem that many have been bitching on this forum about for the last several issues.
The coins have been evenly distributed around the whole of Australia, the ability for individuals to control significant amounts has been stymied and the opportunity to expose many to coin collection that otherwise wouldn't have been interested is significant. Yes some people will obtain a few bags here and there and sell them for a profit but you wont have the vast majority of coins sitting in a security companies vault for 2 years as individuals working for said company trickle them out to artificially increase the price they get.
As for "pond scum", is this in reference to anyone who gets coins at face value to sell? is it wrong that fulvio was lucky to get coronations in bulk or poppies because he took the time to go looking for them? or for coin dealers to sell security rolls? What is an acceptable way to obtain them? Is it wrong to sell them if you have had the same chance as the next man to get them and get lucky?
These are issues raised and demonised in this thread and I find some of the comments in this thread offensive in their generalisation of resellers of rolls as I am sure the people making these comments them wouldn't throw these aspersions at every person engaging in this profit taking exercise.

Just to take that a step further...

The branch where I got the poppies, which, BTW, I wasn't looking for (I just asked for a sack of $2 and didn't realise what I had until I got home) was at Brandon Park.

When Kimmy was in hospital near there, I went for a walk to the bank, and asked for mutes, only to be told someone had beaten me to them by 5 minutes. That someone was Kim's parents, who showed me the very nice haul of paper notes they scored. Which subsequently went on eBay, because that's how they roll.

Does that make them pond scum? I don't think so. Sure, I wish I'd got there first. Just like every race driver wishes he'd gotten to the finish line first. But them's the breaks. Deal with it.

Now, when the race is rigged, that's another matter. And the entire coin distribution system IS rigged, and has been since they stopped selling sacks direct in 2002, and since Armaguard directed its branches to stop exchanging sacks in 2003. The fact is, their employees have an unfair advantage, and they use it. We can't get any information whatsoever out of them, whereas up until then, we COULD talk to them. There were 11 pallets of outback dollars at Port Melbourne when I scored my two sacks (one of which I gave to a mate). That information didn't hurt anyone, but today they tell you its a security issue and they won't tell you. Same as the mint refused to tell me how many sacks are on a pallet, citing 'commercial in confidence'. When the load capacity of those pallets is freely available, and you can work it out for yourself.

We need a more open and accountable system, definitely. But this deal with Woolies is not it. It just adds another bunch of profiteers and petty bureaucrats on top of the Armaguard guys.

I thought serial made some good points but I assume pond scum and bottom feeders are greedy profiteers who don't actually collect coins. They probably don't read this forum unless it's to gain an advantage and unlikely they make any posts.

EDIT: ... who don't actually collect coins other than for as short a time as possible in order to on-sell them for maximum profit.
Two Bob coin collector.

I am not talking about Mr or Mrs Joe average that stumbles across an unexpected windfall from a bank or wherever.
I am talking about individuals that use insider information and or their position to garner these coins and create an artificial shortage to boost their profits on a regular basis.
Also this practice of pre selling something at twice the value that it is easily available from RAM is just a scam as well.
