they were real quality control shockers
that is most likely why the mint ditched that supplier

I sent my Australia Day 50c rolls back reply paid as they were so loose. They had trouble with those and sent lots back to be re-rolled. I assume then they'll be more and more bagmarked because of that.

Is the mint announcing mintage figures for this coin well before its released a potential price killer for the 2014 $1 MoR

From my limited experience and reading, mintage for coins is not released before the coin is issued for circulation usually atleast a 6 month delay from what I have seen, so if everyone knows that only 1 million of these are made means everyone will hang on to them knowing its a low year??

Where as the 2011 10c piece is a low mintage year but that figure wasn't known till 2012??? meaning most of if not all of the 2011 10c pieces went into circulation???

SULLA

The Mint has announced this to dealers as a special 30th Anniversay issue of the $1.

A special issue as RAM has also released 23m Anzac 2014.

This issue is unique and designed to excite us.

That's exactly my point, the mintage for this coin is widely known well before distribution, which is unlike other coins with a few exceptions.

This then gives everyone notice of a low mintage and whats released gets hoarded, purple $2 coin comes to mind.

2014 MOR $1 Roll are not either scarce nor rare.
Some people made a lot of money reselling these

OK
I'll Fess Up, I bought a couple of these rolls and will be breaking them open to hunt for a high quality coin to get graded for my collection.
I figure that cracking them out now will give me a far higher chance of finding a nice coin Than cracking them out in 10-15 years time when the elements may have damaged the coins in the roll.
I imagine that these will be yet another "Hoarded"  coin and mid to high graded coins will be the Norm.
MS67 and above however would be a whole different kettle of fish I would think as most people Wont crack the rolls because of the value of the roll and the coins will slowly degrade in the paper over the years.
Our Ali/bronze coins are quite prone to tarnishing rapidly if not stored correctly, Just look at some of your dollar coins in the cardboard packaging supplied at the mint your own stand and see how they have already lost some of their Glory.

I bought big time in on this one. I don't regret it either. I will be breaking a roll to find one or two to be graded as per trouts suggestion but the rest will be going long term storage with a couple maybe traded to defray the extra cost. the way I see it is I spend many hours searching for mint rolls at banks and that translates into time that could be spent on other things. time=money so the relatively small premium on face value is a good investment imho.
plus, like trout said, the condition goes downhill if not stored properly and not many people handle the rolls correctly. at least half will be lost due to break up/accidental damage and the information I have is the number of rolls made was only about 2500. we will see if they make more but I doubt it

SULLA

SERIAL what is "big time"?

According to my correspondence from the Mint there is no limit on the number of rolls being offered; the only consideration is demand!
Most dealers are quoting 5000 rolls but according to my correspondence with the RAM that number cannot be confirmed.

As most dealers have already sold out out, I suspect that more rolls may be offered by the RAM.

40ish I lost count, they kinda just came in bit by bit. they are on my pile of stuff to record and store. school holidays have put my coin house keeping on hold a bit
I know its not much money to most here but its a lot to me

kchan1111

What's the best way to store them??? I only have the two! Not 40! Can't afford to lose any.

I ordered some rolls from Downies last week and they ran out but said they were getting their
last shipment this week and so would be able to fill my order. They did tell me that after this
shipment of rolls they wouldn't be able to get any more but they wouldn't tell me how many rolls
they had sold or how many rolls were in their last shipment
It\'s not about who you know it\'s about what you know
