ah the old 2007 low mintage 50c story .........
so is anyone going to explain this?

accumulator

Yes Serial, in 2007 it was widely rumoured that the 2007 50 cent coin would have a very low mintage number of 1.8 million,so everyone bought up big on rolls only to find out a few months later that the actually mintage was 18 million.
I still have about 10 rolls of them,i learnt my lesson that year & will never get caught like that again, the old saying " once bitten twice shy" comes to mind.

serial

thanks accumulator.
can you expand on what you mean by rumoured? was it a ram release like this one or just a rumour amongst collectors?

accumulator

Just rumored among collectors,i suspect someone that had a heap of the rolls started the rumor.
No it was'nt a RAM release.
I think you'll be right with this release though, the prices have come down quite a bit in the last few days but i think the rolls start to level out a bit now.

serial

thanks a heap for the info accumulator

robbiegal

I remember seeing coin club members buying heaps and showing off their 50c loot
it was seriously considered to be the lowest mintage going
I don't know exactly where the advice came from but it was well spread around the collector community

serial

Well I hope this case is different!

As this was all started by the RAM in the first place by handing out these rolls to the dealers to make a quick profit, I imagine it would be very unethical for the RAM to create more rolls and issue them just to the dealers again:dodgy:

with 24 million 2014 $1 coins issued for circulation I can't see why they would need to release more??

The rolls contain MOR dollars of which there's only going to be 1 million.

my hunch is that the RAM is measuring the viability of producing unc year rolls again, but in 'limited edition' numbers so that they can increase profits

jeepers - didn't they sell them to the dealers for the standard $29.95 to start with?

they are $9.95 ahead to begin with on each roll

they may have given the dealers 'a sweetener' but there would be a fiscal rational behind that sugar coated mint roll

Australian coin

do you really want to know the true price of the rolls to dealers, derrrrrrr face value
