The 2013 Baby Sets once again featured the 'Dot and the kangaroo' dollar.
The production quality was poor. While the reflective surface are attractive, the dies appeared rusted and the coins in the sets bagmarked.
It took a lot of hunting to find one this good. I hope next year's sets are better.

The "mintmark" dollar for 2013 commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Holey Dollar and Dump.

I consider this to be a particularly attractive design. Note how the denomination has moved to the obverse.

This was what I considered the best of the counterstamp coins I obtained from the Perth ANDA Coin Fair. Currently it is the lowest graded because PCGS considered the two coins that Eric sent them to be a grade better.
Never mind, I'm still happy with my coin.

Until this year I had been ignoring the various Year Of ....  coins but I couldn't resist this one. The coin is prooflike due to the flat fields and the design of the snake gives a natural cameo effect. The obverse design is the same as the Holey Dollar above. Mine was graded as MS68; diligent searching should match or even better this.

For the horseracing enthusiasts the RAM released two coins (one in a card, the other in a pnc) to celebrate the career of Black Caviar. Note the matt fields and polished highpoints appearance of the coloured coin. I find it striking and appealing.

The overall production quality of both coins was quite high and they are relatively easy to find in very high grade.

2013 saw the 200th anniversary of the Benevolent Society and in excitement the RAM issued a commemorative dollar coin. These were only available on cards and in theory should be easy to find in very high grade. However, most of the coins I looked at had many small bagmarks on the obverse. The coin I finally selected was virtually devoid of bagmarks but somehow I missed the hairline scratch through Her Majesty's chin. (Tip: Hairlines will not be visible at all angles. When examining a coin it is best to rotate the coin through 360 degrees so as to pick up all defects).

good advice
I was going to order through the on line shop but thought exactly that
my Goulburn Weir  $1 set was a bit bent because they squashed it in the box
I just order through the shop so that I can get in the gold coin ballot

Thank you. I'm glad you like them.

The person the RAM chose as the 2013 "Notable Australian" was Slim Dusty, a legend for those who like "both kinds of music".

The coins I examined had similar bagmark problems to the Benevolent Society dollars. No scratches on this one, although it has been struck through a tiny piece of some foreign material near the rim at 12 o'clock on the reverse.

I think the coloured Black Caviar adds a bit to this page:

can you tell where do you get those pages emu66?
I had a couple gifted to me & don't know where to buy them
they are very tidy and straight
I have more of the plastic type pages and the holders don't sit as flat and neat

They're Lighthouse pages from Renniks. If my memory serves me correct  they're product code is "encap slab" (what a weird thing to remember). A few years ago Ian Pitt was only keeping limited stock but hopefully with the increasing interest in slabbed coins he's keeping more stock on hand. Edlins should be able to get them in for you Robbie.
