The stock I examined was of relatively poor quality - this was the best I could find

The problem with this coin (and all examples I'd examined when making my original purchase) is that milky look. This is readily apparent on the obevrse:

The coin has no bagging, good bloom, good strike but relatively poor eye appeal. As the eye appeal accounts for 20% of the grade, this explains why the coin only came in as an MS65.

Yes i like this coin too, prolly something to do with my dairy/Beef /Grain Farm background.

I have a dairy/beef/sheep background so that might be exactly why.

I'm in with a common crowd by the sounds ....... I have to add spuds to the list though ..... and who of us can say they've stoked sheaves? (We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves)

Not me I'm afraid. Always been a city boy.

This one is of the same general design but has the bluebell counterstamp. The coin I have is a little baggy but fuilly brilliant (this helps a lot; after all lustre accounts for 20% of the coin's grade). I have no idea how easy it is to find them this nice in a raw state as I haven't seen any others. Actually it was Purple Girl who got the coin for me. Thank you Kathryn.

A quote from Robbiegal that I have taken completely out of context (relates to a 1964 penny of course).
"look beautiful in the holder - the holder is like David Jones Christmas window dressings - really makes them look very dressed up indeed".

I have a silver mor $1 I had slabbed....well....just because i can. I'll dig it out later.

That is a lovely coin Robbie.

The 2012 coin in the Royal Australian Mint's series of Notable Australians featured the Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson.
The prooflike finish of this coin makes it difficult to scan or photograph. It also means that bagmarks stand out much more than on a "normal" circulation coin.
I looked through somewhere between 50 and 100 coins to find one this good:

Late in 2012, the RAM issued two coins, one in a card and one and one in a pnc, to commemorate the AFL season and the premiers. (I believe they will be doing the same this year).
This is the one issued in the card.

I may have deleted it (in error) when I cleaned up this thread.  If I did then I am very sorry.

The mob of roos is nice on business strikes but even better in proof.

This is the 2012 AFL dollar that was issued in the PNC. Production quality was excellent and the coin be readily found in extremely high grade.

Piccies of the coin in the pnc can be found at http://www.australian-threepence.com/blog/2013/03/sydney-swans-afl-premiers-2012-dollar-pnc.html.

The dollar in the 2013 two coin pack featured the Discovery Of Gold. A spectacular design and one of my favourites. While most of the examples of this issue would make MS66, I had to look through maybe 50 to 100 coins to find a couple that made MS67.
