I really want this great story to be true. Even if the daughter did get some lifts along the way.

Quote from: 'Triggersmob' pid='122427' dateline='1590276690'Only 2 active cases here in W.A. (that we know of) and no cases in hospitals.
We can start getting back to normality now. Fortress WA has worked. :)

That is how complacency sets in. There will be more than two and they will be spreading the virus to people they contact. They may not have any symptoms. You'll know you are free of it when there are no cases for three months ... and then they will open the borders and visitors will bring it in again.

This website was drawn to my attention today. Most complete and up to date information for Australia I have seen. Links to the states give more details and day by day figures.
COVIDLIVE
Much better than the official Government sites that are usually incomplete and a few days behind.

Good stuff Jeff! :good: I just wish they would be more quickly transparent as to where and when so people know.

Triggersmob

I guess we will never be free of COVID, we just have to try and keep it at a manageable level.

And the border is opening again soon. I hope last night's storm was not a foretaste.

Well, we did have 2 cases, now all of a sudden we have jumped to 12.

Australia will never be free. There are a few million Australians who travel each year plus a few million tourists and temp workers. Even if the numbers travelling decline by 90% that still means a million travellers (plus flight crews, sailors, diplomats etc). Considering that perhaps 100 million have been infected it still leaves 6.9 billion to be infected over the next few years and they will be the source of new infections. Then there will be reinfections as the virus mutates.
Plus the testing misses many infections as a few percent will be false negatives and 80% of carriers are asymptomatic. Here in Egypt a government minister even admitted last Friday that they factor in the numbers of untested asymptomatic carriers and he said that the actual number of infected was over 70000 with the confirmed cases at 17000.. So with confirmed cases rising by a thousand/day the real number is 5000 new infections/day.
Odds are most planes flying to Australia have at least one asymptomatic person and some of those will be missed by the testing (especially any asymptomatic flight cree as they are not tested even though they are not quarantined).
It's fun being in a virus hotspot?? with perhaps a thousand infected people within 15 minutes walk.

Triggersmob

We have 6 more sailors from the ship that have come down with COVID,
plus another one from overseas. We haven't had any local transmission
for a while.
I agree that we may never be free of it and someone did state that in the
future instead of cold and flu season, we will have cold, flu and COVID season.

It's not only Australians who have been ignoring social distancing requirements at beaches. This photo was taken at during the week at Durdle Door. I had never heard of it before either -it's in England.

It's only about 150km from where I use to live, but I've never heard of it either.

Why did I think of Lemmings when I saw the pix?

Not exactly Bondi, is it!
Judging by the crowd it must be THE beach in sunny England.

Check the break out...lets so surfing Sandy!!
Cue surfing music, stomping at Maroubra etc etc.
No?
Oh well, going by the number of souls on the up lane leaving they must have been selling 10 minute tickets with the "house full" sign up!
Fred.

The preposterous conspiracy theories have been coming thick and fast -almost as infectious as Covid-19 it seems.
And it is nothing new.

Fun news, my wife goes for a walk many evenings with the woman in the apartment below us. Yesterday found out the woman's husband now has a respiratory infection ( the virus? First day of summer here and today a government minister announced that there are now 121,000 infected and they think that number will rise to a million. They also announced today that the official death toll has passed 1,000 but also the actual figure so far may be several times that. Interesting being in a city that likely already has 50,000 infected.

Hi Neal, hope your wife masks up real tight when going for a walk with the lady downstairs!
That is how it transmits, next you get it!
Us elderly people would run away screaming, young whippersnappers as yourself will just get a bit of a cough and soldier on.
Take care my friend, remember, do not drink the water or breath the air and you will be sweet!

Re the government count, how they hell would they know?
Ask everyone?
Multiply their figures by 10 or 100 would be more like it.

See you after the pandemic is over.
Cheers, Fred.
