Quote from: 'nealeffendi' pid='122732' dateline='1593827942'Sorry guys, masks don't work as has been shown by multiple RCTs (randomised controlled trials) over many years. The size of the pores in face masks are measured in microns and the virions are fractions of microns. Bit like trying to keep mozzies out of your house with chicken wire.
As for hand sanitisers they are only moderately effective as they only kill a percentage of the bug and then evaporate within a few seconds. Soap and water and proper technique (work the lather between and around your fingers and the combination of the soap and the scrubbing action will both remove any gunk that might be harbouring the bug as well as do a decent job of killing it. Then wash the suds away and you have clean hands. Scrupulous hand washing between every patient was used in Korea and was very effective in stopping nosocomial infections of other patients and staff.
As for social distancing, that is a joke. They decided early on that they needed to "do something" and they picked up some kids school project and ran with that. About a month back a peer reviewed research paper on actual results with this bug showed that there was little difference in infection rates between 2n and 1m spacing and the only way that the numbers went up in a big way was by actual physical contact.
Best way to control this virus is by high risk people self isolating and everybody else getting on with getting the bug until enough herd immunity exists for the pandemic to burn itself out (making it relatively safe for high risk people to then emerge).
All lockdowns do is slow down the time until herd immunity builds up so Australia will be one of the last places to get to that goal (though a few more guards bonking with quarantine hotel inmates might speed that up).?
Sorry Neale, you are well off the mark on two points. Masks work if worn correctly and are P2 safe. Multiple layers stop virtually all ingress. Why do you think doctors and nurses wear them? It isn't to stop them spreading it around.

The other thing you are wrong about is herd immunity. Two Corona virus cause the common cold. You get limited immunity IF YOU ARE LUCKY.
There is very little hope in the medical community that you can get any long lasting immunity from SARS CoV2. They are already saying people have their second bout of it. The only way we are getting rid of it is for 95% or more of the population to get vaccinated when they are available.

Physical distancing works for most diseases that spread. Social distancing is a buzz word and someone should have copped a bollocking over that.

lol

"I think I made a mistake."

This will probably be another urban myth.  We haven't yet got to the point where anyone who has been infected becomes The Walking Dead.

Most countries were banned form reporting on the Spanish flu in the media.
Spain was neutral, so their media was not affected and did report on the
flu situation, and that's why it became known as the Spanish flu.

Hi Gweidion, yes there is unlikely to be more than temporary immunity to this virus. But herd immunity only needs about 60 to 70% to have had the bug, plus a number of studies show about half the  population already has pre existing immunity as shown by T cells. So only need about 15% infection rate and the spread stops. IIRC there were 4 different Coronavirus that can cause the common cold so now it is 5.
Most medical professionals have difficulty in wearing properly fitted N95 masks, and for everybody else it is a joke. Remember if you can smell a fart through underwear or if you can smell a fart through a mask then you a breathing microscopic faecal particles (and the virions hitching a ride). Masks in surgery is to to stop the big stuff (like the sneeze spray you can see) and are good to limit bacterial infections.
As for vaccinations, you first. The vaccine that they a currently hyping and want to make a billion doses was only tested on 45 subjects of which 4 had reactions bad enough to require hospital admission. They were all selected as healthy, never smoked, not overweight, no asthmatics or any breathing problems, no circulatory problems etc. And why want to inject into hundred of milllions of  unhealthy couch potatoes.
Plus even CDC results for flu vaccines show only that 10 to 60% effectiveness each year. So do you want to take a vaccine that causes more severe effects than the actual virus and will need  revaccination every 2 or 3 months?

Now available the Social Distancing Mask. Ideal for supermarket queues.

I could have used one of those when we were at the food trucks on the bayside yesterday morning. Way too many people.

Hey Neale, did you see the physician in the States talking about Herd Immunity? He was also saying herd immunity may work if they can get to between 50 and 70 % who have it at the same time. He also said they have 155,000 deaths and they believe that the people who currently have it are between 7 and 9 %. So at the bare minimum they would be looking at around 5.5 times as many deaths as now IF they could all catch it at once. So that is another 850,000 deaths but it would be more than that because they aren't going to all catch it at once.
Even if they did, and it died out in the States it would only take a couple of months and some new international visitors with a minor mutation to start it all off again.
Great scheme... not!
As for vaccinations, well if the Russians are they first with it like they are reporting, I certainly won't be lining up for it. I don't get the flu vaccinations now because they only cover 4 strains out of more than 144 strains and people die from the flu every year too. Obviously not enough for them to come up with a proper vaccine for that.

nealeffendi

Hi Gweidion. There has NOT been 155,00 deaths due to the virus in the US. That figure includes large numbers of people who died WITH the virus, not FROM the virus. So if you die from motor accidents, murder, suicide, cancer etc and you had the virus then they count you.
Also a major problem is that twatter, faceplant,  youboob and wikedpedia have censored hundreds of doctors, researchers, professors and nurses who go against what the official narrative wants spun. Look at how effective the Marik Protol has proven in dozens of hospitals in treating patients with almost no fatalities. In an average year 500,000 die of the regular flu and we've don't lockdown the world for it.
People might say it is worth it to save even one life but Oxfam has reported that they expect 12,000 deaths/day due to the worldwide depression. Besides economic depression actual mental depression has skyrocketed and suicide rates are running at 10X the normal rates in many places.

Ozcoins

Neal,
I have seen people staying "People died with the virus, not from the virus" elsewhere, but no actual evidence.
Why do you say this?
In fact what I have found is evidence that covid19 deaths have not been correctly attributed.
Eg UK was not counting any deaths that did not occur in hospitals.
New York had much higher increase in deaths than those attributed to covid19.
