Herc, if the MS68 you're referring to is this one ...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/222558081442

it's because it's a standard relief flag, not the incuse flag.

Hercules

Thanks, Uni. It probably is. I was tempted to buy it because it looked like a bargain, but if it's just a relief flag, I won't bother. :good:

Unicorn

I'd reckon Herc ..... you would have had to beat me to it. :laugh2: I'd hit the kids up for a loan at that price!

Quote from: 'Hercules' pid='110106' dateline='1500184823'Do you have any idea why the value of these coins fluctuates so much? There's one person on eBay selling an MS62 example for $1750, while there's another person on eBay selling an MS68 example for $155. Which of these is closer to its current market value?

I think you will find that the MS68 coin in NOT an incused coin But a standard issue one :ok:

I actually found the tab open in my browser before, and the $155 coin definitely had a relief flag on it. I knew it was risky asking Uni for advice when he could easily buy the coin before me, but with an apparent 10x difference in price for the same coin, I knew I was missing something. I'm just glad it was me misreading the information rather than something trying to rip us off. I suppose that's what you get when you do an eBay search for just "millennium" and "flag". :laugh2:

A couple of 2016 50c variants:

2016 50c - cud in reeds to right of the emu.

2016 changeover 50c - large cud on top of the shield.

Also picked up a 2016 South Korean won (the first one I have seen) in a $1 roll - right colour, right weight :dodgy: - if anyone "wonts" it I would be happy to pass it on.

right colour, right weight, wong coin :)

Unicorn

Great work Pedro! Gee the first one looks like a spear head. What a cracker! :good:

When the Korean ones come from the mint are they in a won-ton wapper?

Unicorn

nah G!

You won. :laugh2:

gnome

not even a close 2nd. :)

Noticed this unusual top on the T in Elizabeth on a 2014 green dove $2. Also strange top to the E as well.

Die degradation or PMD?

Pedro

Unicorn

Great pics Pedro! :good: I'm wondering if the top of the T might be a lamination flaw?

Pedro

Thanks Uni.

Not sure about the lamination.

Looking further there is a similar hollow/trench across the top of the B (just like T) but without any spikes. All of the letters seem to have lost their tops due to a light strike.

Would be an unusual lamination to only affect the tops of the letters and not run across them? That's why my suspicion was leaning towards die degradation.

Pedro

Mister T

Just went through six rolls of 5c pieces - nothing interesting (not even a New Zealander) but it looks like the 2016 5c pieces are starting to become common now (the plain ones anyway).
