NEW $1 COLOURED COIN ANNOUNCED
Following the success of the Coloured Bright Bugs Series of $1 coins the Royal Australian mint has announced plans to produce a complementary coin to round off the series.

Design is at an advanced stage and test pressings and screen printing will commence soon.

The RAM mobile press will be busy because they are taking it to all the major rural field days to provide country folk with a chance to "MINT YOUR OWN". A random survey of attendees at Mudgee Small Farms Field Days last week obtained an 87% approval rating for the design; 12% not so sure and one didn't like it -it is thought that was a city visitor who took a wrong turn on the way to the wineries.

Already pre-production orders are flooding in from all the grannies at Moonyanooka WA.

Discussions are advanced with Australia Post for permission to send this coin through the mail so everyone has an opportunity to obtain one direct from the mint. If permission is denied to send these coins via interstate air mail Australia Post says their proposed overland speed delivery service will accept these coins. After some early problems sexing the snails (until they found out they are actually hermaphrodites) the breeding programme is now commencing.
I can't say any more about this Australia Post development but expect a big announcement. in due course, and a very catch slogan for the new service.

AND, CIRCULATION VERSION PLANNED!
AUSTRALIA'S FIRST $1 CIRCULATING COLOURED COIN

If production cost issues can be resolved then the mint is hoping to also release a version of this coin into circulation.

Woolworths and Coles have offered to help with sponsorship to assist this brilliant initiative to proceed. The circulation version may feature house brand products in recognition of this assistance.

All going well the circulation coin is expected to be arriving at the Security Firms before summer (fly season). When they start trickling out of the banks is anyone's guess.
So keep an eye out on your change and see if you can find one.

Love the angle of the spray can. You have a knack for bringing depth to a painted graphic image on a priceless decimal coin for the grandkids to treasure in years to come.
