I don't know about you, but a distance of 1.5m,
I couldn't bump elbows anyway. May arms aren't
that long.

Still hearing of the "I am important, the rules don't apply to me" syndrome. Hopefully naming and shaming, maybe some fines will get the message across that the rules apply to everyone.
And not just Australia;
•New Zealand health Minister
•Scottish chief medical officer
•A UK cabinet minister who had appealed to members of the public to avoid unnecessary travel
•three policemen and a security guard in Fiji were arrested the other night for having a kava session. Went to court today but I don't know the result -guaranteed not to be a good career move though.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Yes Jeff, that little self important jerk , you watch, he will get fined by the rozzers.
Then he will get his legal team to appeal the fine and take it to court!
And so it will go on and on, just like some of the high profile parasites before that lied cheated and used every means at their disposal to avoid $70 speeding fines.
If he has any brains he will do a mea culpa, pay the fine pull his head in and fade into obscurity.
I hope the press and opposition keep on his case.
Fred.

If most politicians had any commonsense they would knuckle down to do what they were elected, and well paid, to do and talk a lot less.
I was impressed by Prime Minister Banimarama's daily report yesterday. Not sure why but that somehow made me thinking of the plea to politicians here to ask themselves "what would Jacinda do?" Probably something to do with the fact he gives a straightforward report with no BS.
And we could all do with a little Sunshine in our lives now.

Of course my grand daughter is cuter than his. But I would say that wouldn't I?

Keep your spirits up.

I think coupled with the fact we are an island, the Federal Government has done a reasonable enough job during this CCP, considering some of the stupidity and openly flagrant attitudes, as well as monumental stuff ups by State authorities who regulate cruise ships. Knowing, regardless of who is calling the shots there will always be outcries of dissatisfaction no matter what course of action is taken, shouts of draconian and that old fallback remark of racist is welded in there, when the Government moved early and closed off travel with China.

All in all we have done OK, things could have been much worse, and still can IMHO.
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

Well Fred, he did get fined and now he has resigned his position. (No pressure from outside?)
Cue..."fade into obscurity".
Not 100% but your prediction was close to the mark.

Reading that was a source of frustration for me, and followed the same time wasting argumentative process we see all too often, and is why many things haven't been enacted in this country IMHO. In any scenario of life and death where practical people are best let get on with it, the first expert to go would be the so called social expert.

Coming from someone pretty much naive with the inner workings of our financial system, why couldn't the Government have enacted a policy where all monetary expectations (no money changes hands) from the lowest ranking individual to the extreme tip of every public instrumentality and business be put on hold for the period of lock down?

Every essential service, food outlets and export industries for example would remain operational, renters and those with mortgages be free of payment obligations. When the banks started to throw themselves around like a three year old with a fever, they be bluntly told to suck it up as they have been bailed out with public money in the past.

When things are able to get back to business as normal, we don't carry on quite as before. We immediately reduce our immigration intake to 70,000 per year as Dick Smith says, introduce tariffs to protect and encourage growth and employment in key sections of manufacturing so we are never again reliant on foreign supply, start drought proofing the nation by building dams and water diversion schemes which would increase agricultural output. This is when we can do it, money is cheap and would be a pat on the back for the sooky banks.

Has anyone seen my book? I've lost my little red book.  :mocking:

Is this the one?

I think our current government has snapped up all available copies as a textbook for this time.

Yep, that is his book.
I'm bad enough cause I consider myself a socialist who has won at the capitalism game.

That's it, you found it, I just didn't know where to look  :yahoo:

In tough and interesting times like now, we do need a little of the Chairman, not too much though  :winkextra:

We need NONe of the Chairmain, he was a fornicating VD riddled murderer who caused the deaths of over 50 million during just one of his crazy 5 year plans.
Giving renters a rent free period is also giving the person who saved to buy a rental property a period of no income. Anything given "free" to one person is something taken (stolen) from the pocket of another. My super fund(CBUS) has billions invested in property and any free rent would be at the cost of thousands of workers retirement futures
I do agree with bringing back tariffs to a reasonable extent but not with the crooked games of years ago where we paid the tariffs to support corrupt union officials, party cronies and fat cats.
