I just ordered another batch of $5 notes from Australia Post because I read in Maccas that the EA15 prefix was worth $250 in uncirculated condition, but when they arrived this morning, all I got was a mixture of CMs and DAs. They didn't even have the courtesy to give me an AA16 or EJ16, so I was bitterly disappointed. The only consolation is that I've just saved another batch of 2015 $5 notes from the scrapheap. :dash1:

It's hit and miss. Australia Post makes no guarantee on prefixes. Not even the RBA does. Basically the way to do it I think is to just keep going to RBA or a bank for bundles at face value until you get lucky. It's a lottery ticket, but the lottery ticket is free if you can get it at face.

The problem is that the 2015 $5 note was never released into circulation, so the only way you can get them is from Australia Post or a coin dealer, and in both cases, they cost twice the face value and the prefixes are random. I think my only chance of getting an EA15 is spending $250 to buy one off someone else. :(

ARGH! Don't remind me I let that one and only note slip through my fingers at the bank last year. :(

I've now come across over 100 $5 from the 2015 run in circulation. Did they get circulated in only certain areas? Some of them have a lot of folds, but generally they are in good nick. Are they worth holding onto? I have 10 uncirculated consecutive  numbers but unfortunately no first or last prefix. I am trying to find a 2014 but now one seems to have them

Pedro

Jimmy - I have not seen 2014 or 2015 $5s in circulation in Sydney. Also haven't seen any 2014 $5s being offered on Ebay (although I only look irregularly) so I'm not convinced any 2014's saw the light of day.

UNC first and last prefixes for the 2015 $5s are bringing in some nice dollars. 2015 general prefixes going for around $14 (incl postage) on Ebay for individual notes. Probably worth hanging on to them and seeing where the market goes.

I've not seen any 2014 or 2015 $5 notes circulating in Brisbane, but I've seen plenty of 2015 ones in folders from the RBA. Conversely, the 2015 $10 notes are abundant in Brisbane, and will probably be so until they're withdrawn.

Thanks Pedro and Hercules.

Mister T

Anyone had any luck with the new $10 notes at commercial banks?

Anyone had any luck with first prefixes? I have encountered none so far from RBA in Sydney.

Thanks - I'll have to try my luck.

I managed to get ten of the new $10 notes but they are 7 x DH and 3 x DG prefixes.

I tried all my major banks around here and very few had any new $10 notes at all.

The above were secured from Bank Of Melbourne at Deer Park.

Westpac seems to be dragging their feet this year. Last year, they had them in the machines on the very first day, but this year, they're still churning out old ones almost a week later. I'm tempted to just go in and swap some, but I won't do that any more due to the risk of "teller flicks". :(

No luck with first or last prefix, but see they are all over ebay now.
