QuoteAny way, I messaged Dick and he's responded and removed the items from listing and is getting further opinions on them.

So how about the poor bugger that spent $686 on these last week ???

Any reputable seller would have no problem refunding that.

BTW, I'm at Linda's, and she's telling me this topic is all over Facebook and elsewhere she hangs out. Lots of discussion going on. So I just posted in MNS and on my own timeline.

It's been going on for at least five years.  I've always suspected it's the same person doing it and periodically feeding the items out through dealers or auction houses who don't recognise the "errors" for what they are.

EDIT

This is the eBay seller that originally had these "errors" 5 or so years back.

So where does Old Mate from Kelmscott fit into the scheme of things then ??

Does anyone have any of these fake double strike errors they would be willing to donate for a good cause?
I am going to write an article about them for the blog done by MarkN  and purplepennyhunter.
I would like to take some detailed photos to teach people what to look for.

If you have access to a decent vice or a bench press, You can make your own :diablo::laugh2:

Is the AJ mint still operating?
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Why not just use the images you can find on the dodgy listings.
That way you can describe the "errors" using actual images used to perpetrate these scams :good:
It wouldn't be as if the owners of the images had any real rights to complain that you used their images anyway :diablo::)

I am looking forward to reading the article Mate :good:

Regardless of how the images are being used, the person who created them, owns them....
There are a few reasons I am asking for ones other people have created.
These include
- different processes will be slightly different and end up with different results
-I would like to use photos I take (and therefore own)

trout

I think you may struggle to find a member here that actually owns one of these abominations Mate.

Not much of an article there though...

"If you see a coin that has both a normal raised design and a reversed, incused design pressed into it, its a fake, made with a vise and two coins. End of story."

Maybe one paragraph explaining how to make one, if you're really keen. ;)

This was part of my message to the seller:

Quote"Previous buyers of these types of 'so called error coins' sold by you should be refunded and all current sales ended ASAP.

If you know the origin of these 'errors' try getting your outlay refunded"

@Ozcoins.
I honestly think that the best images to use are the ones the shysters put up on eBay.
I would not only use the images I would also use quotes of what they put in the descriptions as well.
As your article is about these shed job errors and I think how to spot/avoid  them, Then using the images the sellers do and pointing out why the coins are indeed not errors would be highly educational.
I am pretty sure that someone carrying out one of these scams would not want to make it public knowledge that the images of these fake errors are a part of one of their shonky listings by making waves about a copyright infringement :diablo:
