The Benchmark coin sold for nearly $10,000. Makes for an expensive slab around a $200 coin.

so are the die chip varieties collectable in their own right?
ps that top dot looks to have a bit of a moat look to it  - compared to mine

I have a few and the only reason I might pay a small premium for an AU58 is to have a nice comparison piece to the real thing. You can pick up raw 1919/. for about $100 so that's why I plucked $200 as a guess.

In good grade they are,for sure.They used to be called "1919 dot under die chip" variety,calling them a "DD die chip" is stretching it a bit.
In the late 1960's it was generally accepted the top dot on these was a chip hence the "1919 false DD" variety was born which took the pressure off the genuine 1919 DD which was known as a false variety for a couple of years.
Still you never know,a coin buff in the years ahead might find a document saying someone added a hole over the top scroll to a dot-under die to create them and everything is back to square one.

I came across Dr. Andrews Book,first published in 1921,whilst looking for the Sydney Mint Book i read decades ago,bit of a downer considering the time and trouble i took to get a copy as its mostly details on Tokens but never the less interesting.No mention by him of the 1919(or 1920) DD,there has to be a reason why Numismatists did not know these Coins were minted.

Andrews was one of the references I checked yonks ago, good book but not surprising that it doesn't mention the 1919 DD. The wording is very similar to that found in Spinks so possibly Dr Andrews either took the details from Spink or more likely he was Spinks Australian Correspondent (but don't quote me on that as I have not checked my notes lately).

It's worth is around $0.2c but the VALUE, I wouldn't have a clue!

Average grades sell for about $50 (most are just 2 pearlers), yours is better than average but is held back by the rim dings. Perhaps around $100?

Yes, I've been going through my collection trying to work out what I might be able to sell to make ends meet and thought this might be a nice place to start. (Most of my silver is gone now so it's onto the copper).

The one below is my best though (well I think so anyway) ....... again I'd really appreciate any thoughts on value.

Nice grade for a 1919 DD but there seems to be a psychological $50-$60 ceiling on Ebay the last few years,to get more it has to be a key date/Unc. or similar but i would start at $100 and see what happens.These Coins may take off again in the future as they're undervalued at the moment IMO.
