Check this one out. When you consider the price paid for the verdigris infected Fenton 1919 DD (2,700 + commission), this is probably a reasonable deal. The 1927 Indian that comes with it is as rare as hens teeth in that grade as well. Here again I sit wishing I had been more frugal in my earlier life :cray:

I recon there's something a bit fishy about that listing. The coin is supposed to be in Bulgaria, and the Posting charge is apparently to cover the seller's airfare to deliver the coin.

You may be correct Nevol. I must admit to not bothering to look at any further detail other than the photos after seeing the asking price. Wow 5 grand US for personal escort. To my eye the coins do look as though they could be on the level, but at this point thoughts of fake slabs or dodgy pics as you intimated, start to cloud the issue.

The seller has some beautiful coins (such as a 1924 penny in MS65BN for $2,400 US) so why is that 1924 penny with free shipping but not the 1927 Indian+ 1919.//.?
the price is a bit high but if I was a billionaire I would buy it.

In the interest of getting back on topic, here is the 1919DD:

I've seen that Coin before,or one very similar,on the Internet somewhere.Oblong blob as the top dot,i also remember the Polish(?) lines around the 'OF' & 'Á' and the fatter bar along with another disturbance of some kind over the A. Lovely Coin.

This Coin shows why experienced Numismatists during the early 1960's were scratching their heads trying to explain the 1919 DD,irregular blob as a top dot.Not sure whats going on with the rim,there seems to be no rim damage as such but it appears the Coin has been in a heated collar/holder and bits of the rim have melted.
Obviously the same die in a similar state of wear as the Bulgarian Coin.

Yeah it's not so much a dot but an oval. The melted bit are strange looking that's for sure.

They must have been minted towards the end of the Dies life,the top dot(hole) on the die slowly breaking away and enlarging.All this was discussed in the early 1960's with no real Info. being revealed,the 1919 DD is certainly a strange Coin.
Not sure whats going on with the Rim,someone on here might know?.
