I agree the initial Woolworths distribution is a good/better idea (probably not for the Woolworths staff however). Lots of people are exposed to the coins over a wide distribution range, they are harder to hoard than sacks delivered to banks/security companies and they filter into the banks/security companies through normal circulation. A large number of people have the opportunity to get the coins, if not buy them relatively cheaply for $15 ($3 each). It's a pretty good model to me.

Have sold out inside a few days at Woolies stores in southern Sydney.

Woolworths staff told me yesterday that they only got a couple of boxes and no idea if they are getting any more.

Fulvio - from your post #205.

"Woolies - $15, limit 1, travel, can pick and choose cover and quality"

There iS NOT a "LIMIT  1" at Woolworths.
It is "Limit I per transaction".

Detailed in post #189.

Here is my scan of the catalogue.

In theory, yeah. In practice, if you try for a second, almost all stores will refuse. I even had two stores refuse to exchange sets I'd already bought elsewhere, and I believe it was Goldy who said his local store won't supply him a second one under any circumstances, even on a different day?

Anyway, its all moot for now. Stocks are depleted everywhere, so unless they get more next week, that's the end of that. 'Unlimited' supply cleaned out in 3 days nationwide.

Piss-poor effort all round IMO. #BoycottWoolies :diablo:

I had a look at a few, and they are the same grade as the loose coins, all bloody damaged. None will be MS.

Maybe we need to vent to Consumer Affairs there's no way any of us would accept any other new product from a shop that was scratched and dented but for some reason we have accepted that because the mint has a new way of collecting its coins that its ok . Just looking at some uncirculated coins from 1981 that came out of a red folder and there's not a dent or scratch on them . All i wanted was a couple of sets of the olympic coins in nice  condition but looks like its not happening.  Releases of the coloured $2 coins from 2013 onwards have all suffered from bad handling and bag marks so i guess it was no surprise with the Olympic coins .

Woolworths shareholders don't get a discount, just employees.

Yup. And when they announced it, I went up and down the registers at Coles and K-Mart, giving everyone a little xmas prezzie. Made them happy, and made me happy to know it was my little protest.

I think that this thread has degraded into something that its original purpose was not meant to be.

It is no longer fun to read and some people need to take a step back and breath a bit. There are (as much as it is hard to believe) more important things in the world other than who has the most coins and how big of a tantrum one can throw until they get them and then brag about how many they have been able to obtain.

Some actions displayed and discussed here are quite below average to be honest.

No one really cares whose email contact or phone number anyone has. It doesn't seem to make a difference either way in the end other than listening to the endless dribble being poured out over the threads.

Mister T

I managed to get one of these today - I hadn't bothered trying to get any from change or whatever but I bought the latest CAB and was given $11.50 in change when the cashier asked me if I had an extra $1 coin - I said I did and gave it to him and he gave me one of these $2 coins in my change.

I'm hearing you Cougar.
I think these coloured $2 coins trigger off something in the brains of some people Similar to the effects that a Gold rush in the early days did  :laugh2:

I fear normal Trout..... But yes you are right, the switch has been flipped in some and a little too far in others. Fortunately most members remain steady and continue the spirit of the forum.
