I have pretty much neglected my decimal albums since I got the shits with the 25mm dollar coin floodgating .
I have however kept up with the other denominations and all I need to do now is to put them in flips and add them to my various decimal albums.
I have been far too concerned with my set registries and getting coins slabbed and have neglected my albums Big Time.
Time for me to sort out my albums and assess what is needed for these, After all the large part of my collections do reside in albums and not in slabs.
I have just received a few hundred 2x2's that I ordered , So time to get busy and catch up on 2 years of coins.
This will be Fun :yahoo:

agree
I have started (over the last few weeks) pulling my coin albums off the shelf and starting to re-connect with the stuff that I have right here right now

mine need sorting and then the coins that I have bought during the last year need cataloguing and filing

great to organise the collection or else it just becomes piles/bags of stuff and not appreciated

You been peeking in my vault again? :dodgy:

Organisation is a huge issue for any collector I reckon. More so for anyone who isn't suffering from OCD in the first place. ;)

Non-adhesive ones that you're going to iron shut so they'll never pop open, right? ;)

problem is if you don't have some sort of a system then how do you find things?
it also depends on what you collect

but if you say, like me,  collect varieties then you have to know which album the coin is in

i'm not OCD but I am fairly, organised or I wouldn't bother
it would be too messy

i'd never be jolly well ironing any 2x2's around my coins

hate ironing anyways

one mistake and valuable coin would be ruined
plus it sounds downright stupid to me

I had a practice run ironing a couple of 2x2s shut and it was no fun. I tried to get my grand daughter interested, she doesn't mind the coins but thought the ironing was even more boring than I did. It was very fiddly trying to keep the pointy end of the iron away from the coin. The thought of doing hundreds simply boggles. I do wonder about having a mixture of staples, adhesives and saflips, its very untidy.

I have a reasonably large desk with two other tables in the room but I can never seem to find enough space to lay everything out. Now I also have a big box full of little blue boxes that don't quite fit with the albums.

I suspect trout is not quite as organised as he could be otherwise he would not have lost an entire wedding set, maybe its only misplaced.

Not like you're ironing a shirt, y'know.

All you need to do is melt the mylar all the way around. It doesn't need to be edge to edge, just as long as there's an unbroken seal. So there's no reason to get anywhere near the window, or the coin inside.

I wouldn't call it downright stupid and I was a bit too fastidious - trying to poke the point of the iron into/onto the cardboard. I should point out that the procedure worked as claimed and I was happy with the result. I just checked and after a week or so all is good.

You might want to write on the cardboard after. For my test I removed the staples from a couple of holders that already had writing on them. There was some smudging.

I haven't picked up an iron since I got out of the Army and I doubt that I ever will again.
The self adhesive 2x2's do work out to be the most expensive out of saflips and staple type 2x2's But they are by far the easiest to use and they are aesthetically far more appealing than either of the other two.
Each to their own but a 20 coin page filled  with neat little 2x2's without any Nasty staples looks rather good to ME :)

When I get around to tidying up my office it is pretty much the same as having an Easter Egg hunt.

I wonder if one of those heat sealer thingys would put out enough heat to seal a 2x2.
Might be easier than using an iron.

What a good idea, I think the heat sealer would work perfectly.
A lot less fiddly than an iron as well :good:

We are thinking along the same lines. I just looked up properties of "Mylar"® (Biaxially-oriented polyethylene terephthalate) and find melting point is given as 254ºC.
What is needed is a press with a heated, 2" square (hollow), narrow rimmed top and a locating bottom guide.

My questions would be;
•How much hotter than 254ºC would the tool need to be to penetrate to the film?
•How long will it need? Bearing in mind different brands of holders have different thicknesses (and possibly materials).
•How much heat and time before the paper facing starts to scorch?
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Most of the heat sealers have a variable setting.
Trial and error will determine which setting to use on each particular brand of 2x2 you need to seal I imagine :ok:

if a 2X2 ironer was in my house
he'd be sent off to the good guys to get his own iron
i'd be very crabby if my iron got ikky stuff on the plate
for sure !!!!

how about a sandwhich grill ?
just chuck the 2x2 in when you're whipping up a sunday focaccia haha
