Quote from: 'r9453' pid='92337' dateline='1468175301'That reminds me, there are some Wedding Sets coming up at the next Universal Coin Co auction, in case you are interested.

I have a complete set of pristine coins and a few spares already so I won't be too interested in those.
For those of you who don't have any of these amazing coins it may be a good opportunity to acquire some of them :good:

2016 is an interesting year as far as adding coins to my albums because of all the different finishes available this year.
Just the 20c normal reverse have 4 different finishes alone :)
There is the circulation strike ( I chose a Baby set coin for this), the standard proof finish, the Gem Unc finish coin from the in come the dollars/cents set and the Frosted Unc coin that will come with the HM birthday set when it is finally dispatched .
Normally I only put the Unc and the proof coin for each year in the album.
OOP's make it 5 I forgot about the Silver proof coin :)

There's a couple of things that aren't too bad but just as long as they don't go anywhere near the estimates other wise they're getting a bit dear.

Isn't Gem Unc how the RAM described the Wedding Set coins?

Yes they did but the finish is different to the in come the dollars/cents coins.
The fields are perfectly smooth on the Wedding set coins whereas the fields on the dollars/cents coins are somewhat granulated.

OK
I have been busy putting coins into 2x2's and adding them to the various decimal albums, I have also re arranged them a bit.
In my 25mm dollar album I have all the MOR coins separate to the commemoratives and have now done the same with the 20c and 50c coins, eg COA coins separate to the commemoratives.

Does anyone else do this ?

Yes, I do. And errors/varieties separate again.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

I don't have that many error coins so I have all the different denominations in the one album.

I arrange mine with silver proofs at the front, followed by regular proofs, uncirculated (ex mint sets), NCLT and I also have a circulation set bringing up the rear. Each set is arranged chronologically and there are three albums in total. I don't have any (dollar) errors/varieties.

Mine are sorted my denomination and I put the business strike, Proof and silver Proof together chronologically, The Silver Proof Dollar coins are all slabbed and are stored separately in 2 albums :)

I have just about brought all my decimal albums up to speed. :yahoo:
It has taken a while because of the volume of coins issued over the last couple of years and I still need to find a few of the recent 50 cent issues to put in the album But I will sort that out :)

My comment related to dollar coins but it seems only natural to keep the denominations separate. I don't have any decimal coins in slabs although if I was going to start doing so, I guess I would start with the silver proofs. I have not bought any decimal coins dated after 2013.

QuoteI have not bought any decimal coins dated after 2013.

When the 2015 ABC dollar coins came out I became very disenchanted with  Decimal coins as a whole and didn't bother with many of the  2015 and 2016 releases.
I did get the annual proof, baby and year sets and a few other of the issues But Not to the extent that I used to readily collect because of the irrelevancy of many of the coins being produced and this is still happening.
What I have done lately is to collect ONLY what I personally consider to be relevant or appealing and to ignore the coins that don't meet my personal criteria.
These are the coins that I have recently added to my decimal albums and I am quite happy and content even though I don't now have a "Complete" set of every single coin the mint has produced in ever growing numbers over the last few years.
What I do have are sets of coins that I like and feel comfortable with and I now don't feel obliged to buy every different coin produced just to maintain a "complete" set of coins.

Yes that makes sense, basically leave out the GB. I found it easier to simply draw a line at the end of 2013 and leave it at that. So I don't have to think about which coins are worthy or not. If I did resume my decimal collection I would start with the proof and Unc. year sets since these are the classic record of strike issues. I don't even try to find a full set of circulation coins from my change since I rarely use change any more.

For me getting back to basics is the pre-decs, these are the coins of my youth that my father took out of his fob pocket each night when he came home from work and placed on the sideboard next to his keys and I would go through them. I was allowed to keep everything but the shillings and florins as my pocket money which I spent (unfortunately).

Having said that my decimal coins outnumber the pre-decs by about 5 to 1 which I am trying to redress by selling off the GB starting with the coloured dollars.

Before I had finished my pre decimal sets I didn't have that much interest in Decimal coins But once I started on them the sets grew rather rapidly as I learned to appreciate them.
Now I probably have 3 times as many decimal coins as I do pre decimals as they tend to outnumber the amount of pre decimal coins minted by a long way.
As far as GB goes I can't break the habit of buying the stuff that I think is appealing and will continue to do so
Anyway some of the GB coins over the years actually become highly sought after coins, The Maundy coins are a perfect example of this :)
I have had a lot of fun with the set registry pissing contests as well since I decided to get some of my coins graded and the coins do look rather "Flash" in their album pages and fancy wooden boxes that hold my more prized coins :)
So now I am just ambling along collecting what I like without any pressure to complete any particular coin series and I am starting to have a lot of fun again with this.
