Jeeze RG I must have got some dust or something in my eyes when I read that post, I had to get a tissue or two to stop them watering
Kids do need to realise that their "Stupid" Parents Do love them and CAN help.
I Loved that Post RG, I really did.
Gotta get the "Posting Freak" turned into "Forum Mum" I recon :good:

yeah - no use stressing out about picking a car when you are already stressed
uni, work , feeling overloaded and/or depressed along with feelings of  loneliness are tough enough

my son had a couple of years on his own and was very lonely

he tried hard to get a girlfriend and a couple of times the rejection that he went through broke our hearts - let alone how he was feeling

so after barking up the wrong tree quite a few times he gave up and focussed on his uni and work and his mates - who were all busy getting married and having kids by then

then one of the students he was in class with started having coffee with him
regularly
and he really liked her but was too scared to make a pass at her

she took the initiative, asked him if he liked her and would he like to take her out on a date

a year later they are still going strong ....

so you never know what is around that corner
but I appreciate that the wait and that sense of uncertainty can be a painful one

all of our kids say that they really appreciated our friendship and support when they went through their rough patches ... parents can be there through thick and thin - we can't make everything change but we do try to help where we can
all you gotta do is let them know that you need them

the best relationships are the ones that you don't go looking for, they just happen.

In 2001 my Daughter had her heart set on a 1969 Holden HT for her first car, it wasn't too bad a vehicle and I told her if she really wanted it I could handle the maintenance (I think I wanted it:angel:). Oops, it was in remarkable condition rust wise, so the first job was to rust proof the inside of all doors etc but over time it involved gear box and clutch, water pump and radiator, harmonic balancer and timing case seal, diff pinion seal, full brake recondition, the list goes on but it was fun for us all.

Among the many roadside callouts was one memorable occasion on a Saturday morning when she had gearbox linkage issues and was stranded on a narrow and busy Waterworks Rd on Brisbane's northside. Laying half under the car with my legs out towards the road was a bit like hand feeding the lions, but I figured the bus and truck drivers all had eyes. :dodgy:

She saved her dollars and eventually had the interior reupholstered and lined, the car finished up a credit to her, we even used it for a family wedding. All these years later and living in the Canberra area she still has it and sometimes gets offers for the car.

No sure what I'm trying to say here, but that vehicle gives us so much to talk about to this day.
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

Yeah, nice story, moral there is a straight, rust free body is the main agenda when looking for a used car, once found then check the mechanical side of things to estimate the sort of repairs you will be up for.

Thanks robbiegal

I think the main problem I am having at the moment is regret that I wasn't able to attempt a relationship (anxiety/ocd) when she was single. The thing with this one though is I wasnt chasing a relationship for relationship sake but because I fell in love with her personality and am regretting that I was unable to chase it. Even when I did make my feelings known she wasn't necessarily against a relationship (if things with the other guy didn't work out which seems unlikely so far) which kinda made the regret that much more painful to deal with if you know what I am trying to say.

Otherwise on car shopping unfortunately my dad doesn't really care about anyone but himself and it has made car shopping with him infuriating however my mum has said that she would help me out instead.

To be honest I have tried everything with my dad but he just can't fill any positive role in my life (advice and talking to him) and it has forced me to fill those gaps with my male friends. He is incredibly hostile and just causes arguments which combined with him not caring about anyone just leaves me without a male role model unfortunately.

P.s. I am terrible with English so just some warning in advance that parts may be poorly worded.

First off, the English in your posts is very good - I do not remember reading your posts and thinking anything bad about the way you write.
Sorry to hear that things are not good with your father.  Sometimes you just have to accept that people are the way they are and deal with it the best you can.  You can not make people change, but you can keep the idea that things might improve.
If you feel you have made a mistake, the upside is that you can learn from it and not make the same mistake again.
Sometimes people keep making the same mistakes and never learn,  but with some thought (which you seem to be doing) things will improve in the future.

hey a friend of mine missed two opportunities with a guy that she went to school and uni with
missed out when they shared a house - cause she got engaged
and then later she missed out when he got engaged

then one day about 9 years ago
she sees him downtown after both of them lived in all sorts of places around the world and both were then 30 something & single 'un-engaged'
and she says to me
"my husband" bumped into me down the street today - I missed out on him twice - I am not going to let it happen again - he has my number

9 or so years on
they have two kids
blissfully together
and still travel around the world with his job (IBM guy)

true story

dad's can be so painful can't they
it is almost as if you have to be their dad!!
good move finding some dad replacements - way to go
your men friends can be life long friends - my hubby has mates who go back to primary school years they are like brothers and with a couple of them , well their fathers were the 'fill in' father as my hubby had and still has an extremely selfish and self centred father

Gee there's some good advice there team and I know what it's like as my father done a runner when mum said she was pregnant and my step father was the same as your old man OMF so that marriage didn't last long and because of the way he treated me I have nothing to do with him and feel I'm a lot better off and don't need the stress or aggravation in my life and know what it's like to declare your feelings for someone only to find they don't feel the same but now I think that's just life and try and make the best of what we have is all I can say and agree with Oz and find your english is impeccable and easy to understand :good: even for a layman like me :winkextra: Hang in there mate :)

Hello,

Kids dont come with an owners manual. They go off the rails in good families, and turn out well from bad families. Most parents think they are doing a good job though. Concentrate on being a good person, and in time I am sure you will find the right person. PM me if you would like to " talk " out of view.

Ended up picking up my first car on Sunday, absolutely immaculate inside and out :D came with full log books , 8 months rego and was owned by two pensioners from new for $9990. Since it is manual it is just sitting in the garage for a little while till I finish learning exactly how to drive a manual :P

Awesome!
Congratulations!

That looks very swish. Certainly much better than my Toyota -an 18 year old Hilux!

I learnt to drive on an automatic vehicle and the first time I drove a manual was when I picked up my first car. I drove it home in peak hour traffic and, surprisingly, didn't have any real problem with taking off or changing gear (had driven tractors so that probably helped although you don't usually change gears in them when moving). My big problem was that, every time I stopped at traffic lights I forgot to change to first gear to take off. Stalled it (bugger); stop beeping at me; how embarrassment.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Well done OMF, nice lookin car mate :good: I bought a car once from a pensioner and the trouble with it was that they'd never actually driven it over 40 so as soon as I got onto the open road and hit 100 it blew up :laugh2: Not that you will have that problem as they all drive like bats out of hell in the city :)

I hope you've been ok mate and things are finally working out for you :friends:
