An old trick (from my long, distant past rally days) was to have a push button switch wired across the brake light switch. When in danger of being overtaken change down, plant the right foot and hit the switch!
Usually gave you enough time to get to next checkpoint first and get a minute start for the next stage. Another trick was to have a switch to disable the brake lights so a following car could not get braking cues from your lights -not recommended as that gave you a substantial chance of being rear ended.

Not legal though; so you did not hear that here.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Indeed, but people did it. "Not me", he protest in vain.

Hello,

I was hoping for an update on things, how is the Car going ? Full Licence yet ? Rally wins ? I do hope you leave it sort of standard, not cut holes everywhere to fit " Subs " and other stupid things. Like a Coin, keep it original for a long time and it will be a great investment. I still have a Car I bought new in the 70's. Not original though. Look at the prices People are asking / getting for Cars you couldnt give away in their time.

Nah it is completely stock and will always remain so. Car is going great, I have learnt manual very well apart from parking which is the only thing I need to do (+17 hours driving) to do the driving test for my Ps. No races for this baby though the revs it does between 60-80 are enough for any car to be sporty.

Well done OMF and good to see things are going well for you mate and nice seeing you pop in from time to time to say G'Day :friends:

Thanks Ai things at the moment though are kinda tough but eventually things will get better

robbiegal

sounds all good OMF
the first car is never forgotten
I still remember my very own first car that I bought myself ...
a Datsun bluebird that was painted post box red
then the next one after that was a 1966 bug

duggee27

just keep at it OMF

cars  are sooo much better these days

i learnt to drive in a FB holden station wagon and did my licence test in it too and those days it was the local copper (sgt) at katoomba.
for those who do not know, katoomba st. is pretty steep, i had to do a reverse park going down and up it !! then the bugger took me and found an even steeper street for a hill start:scared:, and as everyone knows handbrakes are not the best on old cars, gee did i yank on that handbrake so as not to roll backwards !! LOL
... i passed:dance2:
nowadays my car has - hill launch assist :scratch_one-s_head:

far out
I couldn't imagine a worse place to do the driving test

I got my license when I was about 8 months+ pregnant
everyone reckoned that he gave it to me the second time to stop me having to come back - just in case I had the baby during the test!! ha ha
I still remember the local copper sliding the license across the counter towards me , and saying
robin - you won't believe what a good driver you will be in a couple of years time !!!

Thanks everyone I just really want to take it out on the highway 100k speed limit to see how the VVTL-I engine performs when it activates at 6250 revs where it starts opening up the Pistons more and pumps more air in for a more powerful burn.

Only experienced fourth of the six gears so really would love to see how it is in fifth

ha ha

get mum to take you out for a highway spin

anyone can go fast

the real shit happens when something goes wrong (we saw 3 of what looked like drunk drovers coming back from Melbourne on sunday)  or you need to do an emergency brake at 100 k's

you can go to those driving schools where they get you out in the skid pan, doing emergency braking, losing control - a total hoot -
I did a day course a few years ago and absolutely loved it! I was almost screaming with excitement in the skid pan - the car was spinning around all over the place. I'd recommend it for any beginner driver as well. worth the investment in skill building. could save your life too.

I would think that an advanced driving course should be Mandatory for all new drivers.
Like RG said ANYONE can drive fast but very few know instinctively what to do in an emergency situation, these courses teach you these life saving skills. :good:
Anyway the course is a lot of fun to do anyway :)
Aim well to enjoy life. You only get One shot at it.

Not sure if you're on a P License, but if you are, be aware that you will be restricted to 90KPH. I believe this is the same in most states.

Passenger number/age restrictions may also apply, so make sure you know exactly what is allowed in your state.

Drive safely and enjoy yourself.

Oh My Florin,

If you join a Car forum, you may get flamed a bit. This Forum has members with an IQ higher than room temperature, sadly not on Car forums. If you want to learn about your Car a Forum is a great place to start, but be warned that you may have to deal with some unpleasant types.
