I shouldn't have called into lifeline today but I did and walked out with this piece.Haven't restored anything since I started on the coins about 5 years ago but this is a nice Art Deco piece from about the 1920's in solid silky oak that should polish up quite nicely

Yes it's nice but one piece needs of glass replacing and the leadwork needs tightening up but it's pretty much original and untouched

Hello,

Glass is glass. You have all the handles, keys and trim bits. It should turn out nicely, not like the plastic coated chip-board rubbish made these days.

Did the draw to see how it might look finished

I have an old 1940 ish clothes cupboard that was in my daughter's room - still has the mirror

is the broken glass the ale colours piece?

ps - are the glass pieces painted?

ps glass isn't glass

Yes Robbie the broken piece is ale coloured and the silver pieces are mirrored and will have to replace the broken piece. It's only 122 cm tall and 32cm deep so shouldn't be to difficult to find a spot for it

find yourself a good local lead-lighter unless you do it yourself
the ale piece looks like cathedral glass but I cant quite tell
sometimes they get a hold of the vintage glass from demolitions etc

the Italians make nice glass if you get new glass - skip the Chinese glass it will shatter within a week
it should be window glass quality

the lead will be quite brittle by now

are the handles bone inserts?

it is going to look smashing

the ale could maybe be repaired but it would need another strip of H lead - maybe if it was set just a bit higher than the two other horizontal pieces (the yellowed cream pieces) - might offset nicely to match?

stevo1962

We have a guy in town who specialises in leadlight repairs so will see
if he can replace the broken glass and straighten out the lead as I think it's still in good condition.Your idea about putting some lead in
the spot where the crack is might be a fall back measure but I hope he can replace the glass like for like

oh yeah that amber piece is Cathedral glass
very strong
you may be able to get vintage for vintage (or antique)

I forget what the kitchen coloured one is but it is very much like depression uranium  glass isn't it?

did you fiddle with those solders there ?

ausjack
