For some reason, I have some random holes in my collection.

After realising I'm missing a few notes from the mid 90s and the past 5 years, I was wondering whether anyone ever noodled through notes for First/Last Prefixes, radars, solids, etc.....

I don't have a large base of capital to commit to a noodling fund, but all the same, I was wondering if anyone has tried it and whether they had any luck?

Ozcoins

Goatieman certainly did look through notes.
I check notes I come across for any interesting numbers,  but not for prefixes.

I have just this afternoon found I have in my possession a First prefix "AA" $100.00 note for year 2011.

If anyone wants it is has been lightly folded and no serious creases.

Lets say I have a chance to sit in a bank vault and noodle every note they have. What should I look for?

robbiegal

look for Kel cause he knows what to look for!

:mocking: pay that RG, but yeah that's getting like what to look for in coins but that depends on what you like to collect, eg I collect everything and anything but some only stick to a certain thing like 50 cent or $1 so it's up to the individual but things are down and notes have taken a HUGE hit in recent years and an eg of that is the VG95 $50 as it's really dropped if you look at ebay completed listings so here's just a super quick search to show you.

Not necessarily in this order:

First Serial Nos
Last Serial Nos
6 Digit RADAR's 123321
8 Digit RADAR's  05 588550
Repeaters  (3 digit) 123123, (2 digit) 232323 Not really much interest in these AFAIK
Red Serials
Test Notes
Older Notes with Commonwealth of Australia on them
My personal favourites used to be RADAR Repeaters eg. 131131
2001 $5 Notes (Henry Parkes)
1993 Grey Dobell
1993 Blue Dobell

Star notes -good luck required here.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Gee Kel was trying to sell some not long ago and no one wanted them :(

I usual check what passes through my hands, but haven't got a large amount of a single denomination from a teller for noodling. Given my gaps, I might start.

You've got some nice finds there, Kel. If I'm half as lucky, then I'll be satisfied.

I do struggle to tell the difference between the blue and grey dobells especially in the notes of deteriorated condition.

Regarding keeping notes from noodling attempts, what are the general views regarding condition? I'm assuming that special serial numbers are sought after in most conditions, but first/last prefixes....not so sure about the value of a first prefix which has some serious folds.

My local branches have dried up in terms of mutes. Alas, still no mute star, but one can always hope.

AJ, interesting search on Ebay. Didn't know you could do that function on Ebay.

The note market is certainly different to the coin market, although with the current RAM tsunami of decimals showing no sign of abating, it is hard to put a finger on a reasonable area of investment/collecting in the current decimal environment that is stable and doesn't cost you two arms and four legs to maintain.

^^ slightly off topic, may require a new thread.

After popping down to the bank and liquidating $1000 into $5 notes, the first note examined was CJ05 214 412 in fine condition.

My first radar! Yay! Now to look through the remaining 199 notes.

Nevol

Well done coxspau, I hope you find some more keepers. :good:
