there is nothing on that roll to denote that the RAM made it
the other RAM rolls have RAM all over them

I find the story about sweetening up the dealers to maybe be a wee bit of a story to add to the scarcity myth
the dealers aren't ever allocated the ballot coins - to my knowledge anyways

Australian coin

actually Robbie, in all previous year the spare ballot coins had been passed onto dealers, I talk to and buy from several dealers and this has always been the case

see the mint is a business and they don't want to hold onto stock, so they would pass them onto dealers, see the longer they hold a coin the more chance that they could get stuck with it and with base metal prices always changing they might loose money if the market crashed, they are in it for a profit after all.

now circulating coins are produce for the country, the government orders them - thus the mint don't loose money on that, they know that they have to produce so many coin ahead of time

but collector coins well that's a different story, the mint has to decide, do they set a mintage and expect to sell that number, or do they mint to order, some things like say a yearly set - well they know how many they sold last year so that's the target to bet next year.

will the majority of coins having some amount of mintage, the money maker coins are the unique coins, like mistakes and errors or anything out of the ordinary

I talked to a dealer and they attended a meeting BY THE ROYAL AUSTRALIA MINT just for dealers a few days ago, that's how they were able to purchase the rolls, and they had to stay for the whole meeting for that, and most people left. I don't know if the mint used a "special machine to roll the coins or not" or got someone else to do that, since I thought that the mint were not using the rolling machine anymore
anyway, I wasn't at the meeting so I cant be 100% sure
but yeah from the word going around that seems to be the gist

thanks
I always thought that the dealers don't get the sweet deals on the ballot coins
how slack is that?
sometimes the more I know about this game the crankier I get

they probably get chubb or one of those mobs to roll the coins

I also never knew that Goldie is a dealer ... there ya go!!

i'll just crawl back under my rock!! ha ha

I can't see why RAM couldn't have made these rolls available to Collectors instead of handing them out to the dealers so that they could have a feeding frenzy at the expense of the collectors.

Also some of the sellers on eBay have sold multiples of the Vic Cross copper coin,  It makes me wonder how they acquired more than one of these as they are supposed to be a one only ballot item.:dodgy:

Quotesometimes the more I know about this game the crankier I get

There are many instances over the last few years that leave a nasty taste in my mouth as well RG.

Maybe the rolls are like those little gift bags that they give out as say for example, a fashion show expo. The attendees get something special and they can do with it what they want.

So - we are talking money here!! so - money gifts it is.

Which begs the question ... did the dealers get them for free??? highly unlikely I am sure!!  Anyways, if they are unique the collectors will be as you suggested in a frenzy with excitement at the rare chance of owning one !!!

I suspect Goldy got them off of a dealer in Melbourne.  Peter Strich perhaps?  He's mentioned getting things off of him before.

I very much doubt it's much of a secret that Peter Strich is a coin dealer in Melbourne.

ha ha

I was in Melbourne this last week but was at a work conference so I didn't get to do my usual pilgrimage to the wonderful Peter.
Darn it! I might have picked up a $1 roll as well as my usual quota of multiples of the 1964 penny!!

A little birdie told me they weren't for free they paid $29 or $29.96 for them.

I imagine that once the rest of these coins are released into circulation it wont take too long before someone gets hold of some mint wrappers and rolls their own from bulk bags
