OK
I found the white balance setting and set it on overcast the light outside is crappy and I don't have any good lights.
I also found the ISO setting and set it on 100.
I feel that shooting a camera is very similar to shooting a rifle, There is far more to it than simply pulling the trigger

Here is the same image after I mucked about with the contrast and brightness using the Paint.Net software.

I agree, I seriously need some decent lights.

Improvement with every effort Trout.!! Photographing coins can be as addictive as the coins themselves.!!
Silver coins can be quite frustrating compared to copper.! :dodgy:

My eyesight is at the stage where what I think is 'in focus' is not necessarily so.! I will quite often take 50 images of the same coin only to delete 49 and then decide the final one is pretty sad too.!! But at least this is possible with digital photography, beats the old 10 day wait to receive the pics back from the chemist .!!:beg:

trout they are getting better you just have to wait for a sunny day like me. weather over here is not helping
rob you seem to be getting to much reflection off the coin. it would seem that your light source is the issue here. what do you use?

Yes the weather is pretty gloomy but I can do with the rain.
My battery on the camera went dead flat so it is on charge for a while anyway :)

Trout - just use a reading lamp mate or your car repairs lamp
the sunlight for photos is downright awful
use artificial light (or an ott light)
the camera gets too confused with natural light beaming in from all directions

Nice coins everyone.! This Penny is kept in a saflip so it can be easily removed, photographed and replaced. I think it is worth the effort.!
Those I have in 2x2's can still be accessed by carefully removing staples, take pic, then replace staples.

yep
the coin holders make it very hard to photograph the coin
they reflect soo much and dull the photo
but Mark seems to have it perfected

ps Trout
those pics are pretty darn good
I will be looking forward to 1927 florin photos soon ...
