it wasn't meant to look exactly the same..you buy as many as you come across and I'll stick with real coins

well after a closer pic I can tell you they're not marks from a 20 cent or dollar coin so who knows what they use

and shouldn't the mark dish in if done at the mint and not out

Now THAT's interesting... verrryyyy interesting.

I'm not buying it as PMD, but I also have no idea what could have produced it either. :(

Things to note:

It looks like a rotated partial tilted collar, except of course it can't be. But regardless, the serrations are off something dodecagonal, not round.

The milling looks like nothing we have on coins.

There are sharp 90° angles at both inner and outer edges of the step, with no sign of metal squeezed out, as you would get in a vice.

I'm leaning towards some part of the press mechanism itself, or perhaps some foreign object caught in the collar. I'm really not seeing this as PMD.

Late thought: Has anyone seen a similar error, minus the milling? Is such a tilted collar even possible?

I'll concede it could be from an ejector as I've never seen the machine but I can't come at milling sorry as the marks should go inward and I'd have thought are too wide to be from one of our coins..or it's from an O/S coin but who knows, very strange indeed.

They don't make pretend errors then toss them into the pond. With these particular coins, something else seems to be going on. We'd like to know what. Well, at least *I* would, dunno about the rest of you lot. Angel
:i_agree: That's the only reason I'm bothering with it, trying to figure out how it's happening.  No way I'd pay for one! ;)

Quote from: 'jimmy1979' pid='23409' dateline='1375188833'I'm over the moon tonight. Found 2, that's right 2 rotated 2010 50c coins. Now to find out what these are worth. One looks like it has just come out of the mint. Will put picks up later

Anyone know what happened to Jimmy? He doesn't seem to have been around since his find. :scratch_one-s_head:
