Looks like PMD Mate Sorry, there is NO way a milled edge would be anywhere near a 50 cent coin when being minted.
Looks like a typical coin bashing to me :ok:

I'd put lamination/cold shut flaws at around 1:2000, so definitely not common, and RG is right about the value.

I agree with the comment about the milling I thought the same but when you see it close up the milling looks to good to be PMD

Nevol

There have been quite a few of these 50c with milling on the edge show up that I'm beginning to think now that it must somehow be related to either coin rolling machines, or food / drink dispensing machines.

I know one of our members operates quite a few food / drink dispensing machines, so perhaps he might let us know if he's ever come across anything like them.

We have tended to label them as PMD, which of course they are, but without really trying to work out just how it's occurring.

Hmmm... if there was only one, definitely PMD.

If it was coin-op or rolling machines, there would be lots of examples, for all years, in all sorts of condition.

If there were multiple examples, and they were all the same year, and new, then logically whatever happened to them occurred inside the mint. I can't see how it would happen inside the press, so that still technically makes it PMD, but it would give them some legitimacy at least.

Probably between 4 & 6 that I'm aware of.  Two in the Bundy area, and one I can remember that I think was south of Brisbane, now this latest one, and I think someone else here reported one as well.

Don't know if they're all the same year, but they have all had the slightly crooked looking milling on half of the edge of one segment, if you get what I mean.

I may have saved some info on them, I'll check it out tomorrow when I can think clearer.

Come-on you Mob , Why are we trying to give legitimacy to this Crap  :dodgy:

Goldseeker

I have found several of this type of "damage" whilst I have been searching the 50c pieces for the 2010 upset.

I shall in future keep them and post pickies as I find them.

The only comment I would like to add is that until someone can produce proof of a "backyard/garage" damage, I shall treat them as errors from now on.

Because we want to know, that's why. :P

I'm not disputing anyone can make one. But when someone does, they're either being vandals or they're trying to rip someone off.

The latter are easy to spot. A few dodgy sellers have been identified already.

The former are not selective. They ruin coins just because they can. They don't make pretend errors then toss them into the pond.

With these particular coins, something else seems to be going on. We'd like to know what. Well, at least *I* would, dunno about the rest of you lot.

AJ, that looks nothing like jozk's coin. Even with the poor pics, its clear that the milling extends across three faces, and is curved. Pretty much as if it were a partial collar, except we know that's not possible. I don't think these can be made using another coin... the surface would have to be concave, not convex to achieve that result.

What are the chances of better/bigger pics? Your location isn't in your profile, but there may be another member nearby who can help with that.
