Someone with the knowledge & time should set up an Oz. Website or Wicki. with error Coins & fakes etc.

Not a very impressive site, I'm afraid. Maybe it means something to him, but...

Well there's always our forum Coin Wiki, just needs some easy to understand entries.

Not many people have made entries, including me. :blackeye:

So who's good at getting people fired up?

I think the wiki is in the too hard basket for most people. It needs to operate more like Wikipedia, IMO.

I would think that a blog that outlines all the different fakes, scams and other pitfalls that can be found on eBay, facebook and other sites would be an invaluable resource for the newer collectors.
Armed with the right information maybe these newer collectors could avoid all the pitfalls and mistakes that the more experienced collectors have NO doubt fallen prey to over the years.

Geez,Fulvio,i've got it,you don't like the site,my apologies for wasting my time posting an eg. that would be good for Oz. coins, perhaps a site that shows a double strike on a Bit Coin would be more to your interests.

Don't be silly.

A bunch of pics of basically the same thing over and over, with no explanation, isn't the way to do it, that's all.

If someone here (not me) were to have a go, it would need to have a heap of explanation of what to look for, and why. Not just photos that don't provide any information.

Great job Trout.  I have posted your images up on our blog Facebook page along with a warning to look out for this type of fabrication.

No-one will read it.  I'll be happy if someone wants to write something to put up on our blog along with trout's pictures.  But let's not kid ourselves here, people who need to read it don't read it.  They don't search for it.  They just see something that looks amazing and start throwing money at it while those who know better sit back and scratch their heads.  It's unfortunate but a lot of people either never learn or only learn once they've been financially burned.

I think that I kept the purple stipe $2 coin that I took the paint off with acetone somewhere.
These are another common created "error" that comes up on eBay from time to time as well.
I will see if I can hunt it down and if I can't I will do the same to an Olympic $2 coin to get some images up :ok:

We published an article about "fake" no paint errors at least 5 years ago and here we are knee deep in fake no paint errors.  As I already said no-one who bids on such coins does the research.  People who fabricate errors know it, that's why they do it.
