This is the last coin I needed to complete MY set.
I have No idea why I didn't get this in 2009, it is a nice design and it is in great nick compared to some of the latest offerings from RAM.
All I need to do now is get the 20-30 dollar coins issued each year to keep it up to date :dash1:

The Irwin coin was a sleeper and now worth more than issue price

Agree, the Irwin coin isn't a nice coin - doesn't really look like him at all.... Don't understand why this would be the last one to get as I got this one the day after it was released. To each their own, I suppose. :)

Anyway... I'm also in the throes of collecting every single $1 coin out there too. I do have a question or two though. Aren't coins worth more with the original packaging or doesn't it matter? I don't think I will understand the need to break up sets (but am digressing...)

I've kept all my MYO's with the cardboard folders and use note plastic sleeves to store them flat (3 to a page). The ones without those folders, I use the self adhesive foldable coin holders and staple all four sides so the coin doesn't move inside. It takes up a few folders but displays better. Is this a good way to store them or should I look at encapsulating them?

Does this mean I have to start collecting proofs too? Glad there wasn't a proof of the VC coin. lol

It is entirely up to you TG and by the way  :welcome: to the forum :yahoo:
Personally I rip them out of the mint packaging and put them in my albums.
lots of people keep them in the original mint packaging and others like Feathers get theirs slabbed and collect  them that way.
It really isn't important as long as the coin is safe and you are happy with your  collection all is good.

I'd qualify that statement slightly.

It really isn't important if all you care about is your personal enjoyment.

But to many, preserving value or at least not devaluing them is important. In which case keep them as original as possible while removing hazards, such as PVC packaging for example.

There has been much discussion here about packaging, and the merits of various approaches. A great start would be to find and read those, and also to research the long-term suitability of various materials for archival purposes. There are entire websites dedicated to archival and preservation, especially of documents, which are also relevant to coins and banknotes.

And definitely learn what materials go into various branded products. There are popular products out there which will definitely destroy your collection over the long term.

as there are 328 different coins in my 25mm dollar collection alone the practicality of having every coin in its original packaging and boxes is a pain in the butt.
2x2's, saflips or slabs are a far more practical way of storage as long as you use archival quality products to store them in.
Imagine the amount of storage space you would need if you kept everything in the Mint "Tinsel"  and there is always the danger of the PVC that the mint still insists on using damaging the coins.
Agreed that coins still in their Mint Tinsel do get a small premium over raw coins in flips but it is not the way I like to have my coins.
I like to have them in album pages so that I can view them without going through boxes and boxes of stuff to find them :ok:
Slabbed coins can also be stored in albums as well but take up far more space, The upside is that if you pick the right coin to get slabbed it will most probably be far more valuable in the long run than the same coin still in its packet, box or whatever else they come in :)

Welcome Tigergirl.   I to have a complete $1 Alum Br 25 mm collection.   I buy two of each of these coins.   I keep one of the coins in the folders as issued and the other is removed and placed into DANSCO Supreme Albums.   When it comes to the Mint Marked coins I get both the Heavy Press and Portable Press coins and label them separately.

If we are talking solely the Alum Br 25 mm coins, then there are 241 Alum Br Coins in my collection.  They are both in original or DANSCO albums.

In regards to the silver proofs of the 25mm coins, I have 33 coins, all in original packaging.

I wish you well in your quest in trying secure a COMPLETE $1 Alum Br collection, in original folders, as I feel sure there are two that you will not be able to find.

The coins are in specially marked folders and referred to as the HMAS Sydney 11 and The Eureka VIP Foldered coins.   Both folders have a special overprint on them and less that 50 of the HMAS Sydney 11 folders exist(?) and I have been told only 37 of the Eureka folders exist.   Both of these numbers have been challenged by me with the RAM in Canberra and I am still awaiting a response.
