Australian coin

personally I like the last two pictures size, it covers the quality of the coin, you can read the date and see the edges, but if you are wanting to see the details in the surface of the coin then the bigger pictures are what you would use to see scratches and finer detail.
use what you feel appropriate, people will let you know if they would like to see finer detail in a coin or not, great job by the way I like the darker background

I think 800 pixels square is a good size for coin grading.

Kel, a massive improvement in one day, straight to Grade 4.! I think somewhere between 600x600 and 800x800 is the best for this forum, especially for grading. I like to take 6 to 8 photos of a coin then pick the best one (focus wise) then crop and resize then upload to photobucket and transfer to here.! Sometimes it takes me 5 mins. to get it right, sometimes 30 mins. All part of our learning curve and given enough time it will become second nature.! Best wishes with the grant- hope you can at least replace all the important stuff.!

Another feather in the cap Kel.! I think the size of the dollar is just about perfect for grading. Focus is good, cropping is excellent and your wife must be breathing a sigh of relief.!
I look forward to many memorable views. "Learning is an art and an art worth learning.":yahoo:

Kel, One of the huge advantages of using Tinypic, is that there's no need to resize your images.  The forum does that for you automatically.  I do suggest that you continue to crop them, as that gets rid of unused background.

I have chosen an image that I haven't resized from my pictures, it's actually an old scan, but it's  529kb, so it's a fair size.  Here it it straight from Tinypic:

You'll notice a yellow bar immediately above the image, that's the forum modifying the image size, which has been scaled down.  To see the original size, click on the yellow bar, or to see a smaller size, click on the image itself, this is handy if you don't have a larger monitor, it usually saves you from having to scroll to see the whole image.

You should be able to save yourself some time by skipping the resizing of all your images.
Have fun!

thanks accumulator , i think so too , that is going through tinypic and changing the size to 60 % , after doing a crop on window,s and taking from my pictures , a long way around but at that, they are starting to look a lot clearer with my new camera , it is 16 mega pixels and my old one was only 3.1 .    could you give me any idea of a grading on my first mules please ?   ,, kel ,,

Hi Kel, 1st one VF, 2nd one a EF or EF depending on how much of the queens hair detail is missing,i suspect a bit of the hair detail is'nt showing up properly & if that is the case then it would be EF.
