How does that work? Your bid would have been first in line and should have won, you would think.

Nobles Terms + Conditions..The highest bidder shall be the purchaser...The Auctioneer shall be the Sole Judge of who was the highest bidder..Two bids of the same amount,but the live Invaluable bid included a 5% buyers commission. Could be that?.The Invaluable site says SOLD-$1200.00 and nobles site shows item not sold???...As for the person who got hit with the $1800 bucks, i always thought that the item sold for the next lowest bid...Unless your max bid is the only bid... :scratch_one-s_head:

Extreme buyer beware with any Auction especially on the Internet,he says stating the obvious.
Whilst at School i worked for a 2nd hand dealer during School Holidays and W/ends.,he dabbled in everything and got the Coin bug in the early 1960's when clearing out Homes but Monthly Auctions was his go,many items above the rubbish level were already sold to his fellow Dealers/Cronies and regular Customers(he had a book with who collected what),and only listed to get Punters in the door thinking they might get a bargain.
After 30 years in the Business he was correct,although missing out on what they came for with the Cockatoo's active they usually purchased something whilst there thinking it was cheap or a bargain.
Jungle out there,Ebay has proved that.

Just an update on a couple of pennies seen in the market over the past six months or so.
1920 English obverse, dot above bottom scroll. VF20 (Fine), $3,250
1930 English obverse, XF40 (VF) advertised at $95,000. Unknown if it sold or not.
1931 Indian obverse, dropped 1. VF30 (Fine to good Fine) $3,750
 
As always, the values listed below are only a guide and should not be relied upon. The main point of the exercise is to highlight to the uninitiated that these scarcer to rarer coins most probably will not be found in current guides.

After a few recent sales and auctions I thought it time for an update.

There were a couple of 1931 Indian obverse pennies with aligned date, as well as one dropped 1 type.

The 1931 dropped 1 Indian was a fairly ordinary about fine IMHO, with edge knock and an obvious patch of verdigris, but still made $1830 after commission.

One 1931 aligned date was ex the Benchmark Collection in a slab and graded AU55, and made around $2150 after commission.

The other aligned 31 was in a PCGS slab graded AU53 which was described as aEF. It made $560 after commission. 

There were also a couple of 1953 sans serif 5 pennies in slabs graded AU55 and 58, around gEF in the old scale IMHO, which each made about $100 after commission.

Also a 1922 Indian obverse penny in a PCGS slab graded AU55 and described as gEF which made $220 after commission.
