I've spent half of today moving the forum to a new server.  Along the way I've had to upgrade the forum software and the gallery software.  As a consequence some things look different.  I've been through and tested a fair bit of the functionality and it seems to be working OK for now but no doubt there will be things that are not right.  Please report those things in this thread and I'll fix them as I get around to them.  Here's number 1:

1.  The View Unread Posts link is gone.  The plugin that generated that is out of date and it would be great if it could get working again.
2.  The style of the forum is a bit wonky because it's probably still using a cached css file.  Fix this by holding the CTRL button and pressing F5.

Oh so that's why I couldn't get on earlier and keep coming up with some error thing.

Now this will take some getting use to as it looks totally different and a bit hard to work out the post and having blue everywhere is really different but see how it goes :(

It actually separates the persons avatar thing from the post

Just logged out and back in and the blue is gone so anyone else having that problem just hit the ctrl and f5 and problem fixed :good:

Nice work Mark. Looks good... Also clearing the history (cookies etc) helps to get the most up to date site. (Clearing the cache)

Certainly looks different and will take time to get used to the new look.

The different appearance doesn't unduly worry me. Just different to what we are used too but, in a few days, we will get used to it and not notice.
The old forum was loading pages very slowly for me in the last week, or so. Now quite quick -less than one second and if I open a link in a new tab it is there as virtually as quick as I can select the new tab.
The Gallery, wiki etc. all check out OK for me. And the formatting tabs now work (they never have for me previously) so I should not have to manually input BB code any more.
Only negative so far is smilies pop up doesn't seem to have any facility to make full screen so slow to find an appropriate smilie. :dontknow: But the smilies do appear in my draft posting except just the code.

So, thumbs up from me.  :good:

I haven't been able to see the new forum until just now, yes it's different, but different doesn't have to be bad. Just different. Perhaps a bit classier.

Mark and I have been re-evaluating the websites that we run and are trying to rationalise and have sites live in the same place to reduce costs. This is the result of some of that process.

If you are unfamiliar with behind-the-scenes internet here it is in a nutshell. All websites live on a computer somewhere (host), these are usually in massive server centres around the world. We rent these computers or part thereof to use to host our websites. The forum had a happy life in California which cost us $20/month. We've now moved it to a server centre in Singapore that is costing $5 a month. Theoretically the forum should be quicker because Singapore is closer!

FYI-The wiki is yet to be moved.

And here I was thinking I had been banned when I couldn't log on yesterday :mocking:
