A lovely piece of artwork Auto!

Great work with the instruments Interest & Auto! I'd love to be able to play a guitar. My son is pretty good at it. Perhaps one day I'll get time to learn.

Same here, shortly after Ebay started in Oz. Stamp values were going South, the local Coin/Stamp Dealer had Monthly Auctions and i asked him to look at my Collection,we ended up doing a Contra deal for Coins,he would have done OK as he removed the best ones and sold the rest off as  bulk lots.So only Coins these days but that still takes up plenty of time.
My other interests include loosing money on Ponies & FootyTab and annoying people on Forums.(HeHe).

OK, so when are you going to start annoying us?

Quote from: 'interest' pid='106052' dateline='1488287404'Yes AC, the Fender Strat is a nice guitar which I play a fair bit, but would you believe the black Tele copy has a better action & better to play it cost me $75 back in 1977, the Aria accoustic is an Everly bros copy, It is really great to play has a full sound & an action as good as any electric guitar I kid you not, have had that since 1975 got it because some fool fell on my Maton & snapped the neck.

Hi interest, Sounds like you are very accomplished Mate, most people would love to have your talent. My one and only guitar is a Dove copy by Suzuki which I've had since 74, so have had plenty of time to develope any hidden  brilliance :derisive: but just a shocker  Noticed a beatles figurine in your display case; this is a painting of the Beatles done by our Daughter. It's not quite finished, but I think she captured the slightly surreal look she was after  :)

Gee I really like that AC daughter has a talent, loved the Beatles, George was a great Guitar player & Lennon was not far behind him.
Was outside Sydney stadium the night they played here, couldn't get a ticket.A Suzuki, Gibson Dove copy, probably a nice guitar from the 70's  made in Japan, some quality guitars came out of there before mass production took over.
but gee you daughter shows a lot of talent hope you have a house full of her work.

he he, we do at the moment, she's living with us temporarily. She'll be pleased to hear that others approve of her work as she is her harshest critic.

Remember the beatles tour of 64 well, but a bit young and too far away in the country to even think about going along. Being glued to the old valve radio (we didn't get television till 65) in Mums kitchen listening to their arrival in Sydney and the odd press conference with screaming fans in the background was as close as we got.

Home brewing from grain.  PPH bought me a kit a few years ago and I've dived into it head long.  A lot of fun and you get something to drink at the end.

This is a pale ale I made a few months ago using a single hop variety, "Stella" hops.

Yup. Last one I did was a rubber tree with spaghnum moss and glad wrap, but I've tripped over an easier method.

Slice up a PET bottle in such a way that you can get it over a branch, fill with a suitable moisture-retaining mixture, put the end of the bottle back on, tape it up and cover with aluminium foil. Wait a while for rootball to form, cut off and plant.

You can't plant the seeds, cos they won't breed true, and it will take five years or so to find out if they're duds.

thanks
do I slice the branch as well? (before covering with the mix and the bottle)

beer

my father made home brew for years
he eventually stopped buying beer form the bottle shops

Gee Mark, we have complementary hobbies -you brew it, I drink it.
Long time since I did any brewing. Must start again because beer prices seem to keep going up; and Coopers, which I like, is never on special at the bottle shops around here.

I have more or less stopped buying commercial beer.  The only time I do is when I am trying a new style and I want to taste some commercial examples.

It's questionable whether it's cheaper or not to brew your own especially if you go all out with equipment.  I've spent perhaps $500 on equipment in two years but you can easily spend a lot more.  My best guess is that it costs me about $30 for a batch of 16 long necks when I defray my equipment costs over the batches I've done.  You can reduce the costs a bit when you harvest yeast from a batch or even pitch a new batch on the yeast of the old.

That all being said, if you pitch on the old yeast and have enough hops in the fridge already and you're just buying grain you can do a batch of 16 long necks for under $15 which is pretty good value IMHO.

Quote from: 'ausjack' pid='105989' dateline='1488198935'WOW a twelve string interest, very nice collection there mate :good:
Hi AJ bought the 12 string on Gumtree couple years back had a high action & very hard to play so I adjusted the truss rod, shaved the bridge put on a set of lighter strings & bingo one nicely set up guitar which stays in tune, but I don't play it all that much still a lot harder to play than a 6 string & doesn't sound as clean unless I play some Eagles songs or the Seekers LOL. also have a Bass which I played in a band back in the day, but I have joined a UKULELE club, it seems that "old men play Ukulele's" these days they are no longer considered toys this group gets together weekly & play the Ukulele. They are very easy to play & a lot of fun.

I can only strum a bit but a mate had a 12 string and I had a go one day and if you can play one and get a decent sound your a pretty good guitarist in my book. Your never to old, suss out this 81 year old bloke, he rocks :winkextra:
