Hey Folks,

Thought I start a new thread to talk about our other hobbies (assuming we all have collecting coins in common).

If we find any common ground, hopefully we can talk and help each other.. :yahoo:

I collect watches (wrist watches) and keep pet birds. I have a Yellow Crown Amazon and a Blue throat conure ( used to keep a few breeding pairs but due to other commitments that is in the past).

What do others do to stay sane?
Collecting coins is not about having the best, but loving what you have ...

Birds?.......yeah AP, I had an interest in birds when I was much younger, oh I see, you meant the feathered variety  sorry Mate, being serious now. We always had birds of some sort at one time or another, but mainly natives like budgies, rosies, galahs and cockatoos, but just a few budgies at the moment. Although, our daughter who is living with us temporarily, has brought along her Indian Ring neck.

Not a watch collector as such, but have inadvertently managed to collect, or should I say retain a few I've had over the years as well as the odd hand me down. A couple of interesting pieces are watches given to me by a past employer when I worked for National Rail Corp, and of course I can't forget the Seiko stop watch, from when we trained a few greyhounds back in the 70's.

Model railways has been a long time interest for me, thankfully now that I'm retired, the lure of the hobby is still strong :yahoo:

Golf is a sport I've played much of my life, and after building 500 metres from a golf course about 4 years ago, I was sure that's where I would be spending a lot of my time in retirement. The sad fact is this has not yet happened, but I'm working on it. Hmmmm...too many hobbies, but it's fun :yahoo:
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

Also a fan of watches, wrist and pocket. :)

Fishing has always been my First Love, Coins are something I do when I am not fishing :)
The more remote the fishing spot is the better I like it so as a result my 4WD driving and camping skills have been honed over the years.
I had No intention of starting a fishing rod collection but I have never thrown or given away any of my rods/reels so I probably have 50-60 of them floating about the place
My other inadvertent collection is Grandchildren, We now have 19 of them :)

I like woodworking and have send a few things I've made to various members. I really like working with burls when I can get them but haven't done any for a while now. I use to collect trading cards but gave that away a few years ago as I was getting to many and now have thousands and thousands of them

Although we have 9 birds, none of them are mine, all bought home by my son.

2 male Cockatiels, 3 Indian Ring Necks (2 male, 1 female), 2 Peach face (1M 1F), 1  Male Galah, 1 Yellow sided green cheek Conure, male as far as we know.

If the Conure ever had to rely on his flying skills to escape any threat, he would be in trouble. Flaps his wings like mad and gets practically nowhere. He loves sleeping in the space between my son's chin and pillow and happily stays there for hours.

All the others are expert flyers, but the whole lot of them are nut cases.

As for peachies being love-birds, they should be hate birds, they spend so much time having domestics.

Yep, coins, stamps, trading cards (yugioh & pokemon), coasters, historic newspapers & magazines, cars, cars and cars, animals, prospecting, antiques, weetbix cards, cooking, woodwork, renovating and music. Used to be a gun fanatic (target [trap & pistol] and feral animal hunting), archery, martial arts and gave up collecting matchbox labels since no one does them anymore. Maybe I'll stop there ...... :laugh2:

Goose

Hobbies; #1 is driving...34K-km/yr, waterfowl hunting, coins, metal detecting, and stacking silver.

You forgot good memories like when I visit :blush2: must do it again :wavemulticolor:

I should bring down some of my trading cards, gee I have so many and like you a LOT of yugioh but not that many pokemon and quite a few NRL, UFC, star wars and other movie and TV shows and a few cricket from the weeties packets as well :good: It's amazing how good of a dollar you can get for some trading cards as I have sold a few and got $100 for a card.

Yes stamps but not so much these days but still put the one's I get away.

AJ, I filed your visit under Highly Rememberable Pleasant Experiences ..... along with never having to go to the dentist ever again. :laugh2:

Whenever you're heading this way you know you're always welcome. (Have the majority of my "collections" packed up for the ..... one day it will happen ..... eventual move). There are still the remaining dozen folders from DR3 though to YSDS in the bookshelf though.
