I think it is more of a "Negligence" effect than orange peel

These are proof coins from the RAM what a joke surely they are not meant to be like that  , maybe they thought "We got away with it with the 2015 dollar coin and no one COMPLAINED so why not the whole 2017 set

They are not Proofs, These are from the annual Mint set circulation strike coins.
I do agree however that the quality is seriously Lacking :ok:

Still NO 2017 baby sets up on the RAM site yet.
It seems unusual that the Mint and proof sets haven't got a "Special" coin in them this year So I am thinking that the Baby sets will include the 2017 "Theme" coin as I doubt very much that the marketing team will want the baby sets to include exactly the same coins as the Mint and Proof sets, RAM would loose revenue if this was the case.

I got my mint and proof sets yesterday .... Had a good look at the mint set and mine do not have that dimpled effect that yours have got. Mine are very smooth on both obverse and reverse sides. Yours might be worth a bit as some type of error?

I have just viwed my Mint set and it would appear to b e "orange peel" effect.

I shall wait until the 2017 Baby Sets are released, 05 Dec 2016, and go in and compare my set with those that Downies have not sold.

If the new set has a mirror like finish rather than the "orange skin" effect, does one keep both sets or swap for a mirror finish set?

Keep both . . could turn out to be quite an unusual error of some kind?

Is it usual for AlBr coins to develop the orange peel? I have seen quite a few pictures of gold coins with this but AlBr would be very hard metal for this?

I am sticking to my pitted die theory until someone can come up with a more plausible explanation :ok:

:i_agree:
Having an affected set in hand, it's not the "orange peel" effect. Being struck from a rusty pitted die would cause them to look the way they do.

I think that i will just get another set next year, Maybe the coins will be better.
The first lot of 2016 sets were pretty much garbage But later on they got better.
