Found this 1956 Florin with a similar flash effect in the obverse field.

Well I reckon that's a pretty flash coin, especially below Lizzies chin. Maybe AJ's Mum needs to carry out a spanking

Hadn't noticed that AJ. Will have to go and dig it out. The coin that is, not the crack :)

You have an eagle eye AJ. While I was at it I found another 56 with a die crack in a similar spot. Liz definitely spent way too much time rolling her shoulders in the sand pit when she was a nipper. The second coin has die flash as well, hadn't noticed that before:shock:

AJ always find the die cracks and stuff
i put up a glorious coin (IMO) and then comes in with the - oh did ya see the blah blah

eagle eyes for sure

should work on the tuna fishing boats - they'd pay him big $$ for his eagle eyes

:laugh2: Sorry team :blush2:

That second coin has a nice die crack auto :good:

When I went to a auction showing with Belly he also got annoyed with my "eagle eye" :mocking: as we were looking at proofs and I was finding errors everywhere and when I pointed them out after he'd already looked at the coins he said he didn't see them until I pointed them out :)

This might be why I grade a bit harder than others so not much point in me getting a job with pcgs :winkextra:

Alan Herbert in the "Official Price Guide to Mint Errors" lists in the "Die Division" of errors (II-I-2 to be precise) an error type called "Polished Die".  He mentions that circulation dies are sometimes touched up or repaired with various grades of polish and abrasives and "small areas of circulation dies may be found with a similar mirror finish (to that of proof dies)".  I suspect that this is what you're seeing.  And I've seen it many times, especially on later date QE2 silver.  I suspected it's only a phenomenon of the first few thousand coins struck from a die before it wears away.

I'd have to disagree. The die flashes seem to not be mirror like but a feature that runs in a single direction (much like taking a polishing cloth and taking a single straight line swipe over a surface). To take what Herbert describes and then apply it to die flashing would require the polish and abrasive to be done in a single straight pass and not multiple swirling motions (highly unlikely). So I'm presuming that what Herbert describes is something different.
Take it another way, do proof coins surfaces look like a big die flash?
