It's the motive behind it all that's really pissin me off, it so looks like another thing (the mint) the government is trying to sell off, where will it all end. Why is it only big business is getting these sweet deal, I suppose they've sold us out on everything else so why not sell the #@%*! mint :@ Why are people so stupid and can't see what I see or are happy to see our assets get sold off for nothing :dash1:

Because a bunch of total wankers are running everything trout, the once great australia isn't great any more, it hasn't been for a bloody long time, full of tosser that have no idea and happy to be a sheep :(

Oh no, that brought back some bad memories AJ after I'd almost removed it too. :shok:

Wait... what does making coins for businesses have to do with an asset being sold? Is there really some kind of speculation the mint is being sold?

Edit... getting them from a supermarket will be better than all the little newsagents who deliberately withheld them (20c/25c) to sell on ebay etc

:laugh2: sorry Pedro

It's how it all start LC, they've (the government) have done it time and time again, say something is running bad so it's better if we privatise it and they've been trying to make out the mint has been running bad for a long time and if you show a few of the big business they can make good money it's easier to sell it off, EG, auspost, comm bank etc etc etc and it's a very long list and soon to be medicare as well. I know they haven't done it yet but just look at the humble little five cent that they're always saying they've got to get rid of because it "costs too much to make it" when in reality I am still finding coins from 1966 so you can't tell me they don't get their money back and more when you take how many hands it passes through and they get a GST :dash1: It's just a piss poor excuse to increase the price of everything and what's it matter it's only five cents right but try being on DSP and all the little five cents here there and everywhere soon add up :(

thought I'd just do a google search and this is what come up so it's been in the liberal plans from 2014 at least.

And yes I know it was labour (Keating, wolf in sheep clothing) that sold the comm bank but the libs were fully on board and then they just went sick when coward got in and he sold heaps of the aussie assets that were making good money. But that's why I say government as they're all the bloody same and only there to line their own pockets.

Sorry for the rant but this really annoys me and makes me sad and depressed.

Hi Jack, I hold the same sentiments towards privatisation as you do. I dont like it..  But im not seeing a connection between these coin releases and any potential sell off.

Now... if Auspost was sold off after a string of special addition stamps distributed through newsagents and supermarkets you would have my full attention.

Have mints been privatised anywhere before i wonder :)

I didn't see the TV piece But if that is the case it will be a case of "Pot Luck" with NO guarantee of getting any particular $2 coin and the quality of the coins will probably be Crap due to all the handling associated with going through the tills and the checkout's grubby fingers :dash1:

This whole coloured $2 coin distribution has been a debacle since the first red poppy coin was distributed via the inept hands of the RSL that actually  Glued the coins to a card , god Bless em

Unbloodybelievable :dash1::dash1::dash1:

Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

I just watched the tv clip and they will apparently be available from RAM :yahoo:

If they are being distributed via the tills at Woollworths, surely then the set of coins from the RAM should be at face value.

Having watched the video, it would appear as if there will be two folders, one folder for the Paraolympic coin and another folder for the five coin set.

Most probably anything above face value charge, will be for the packaging.

Maybe the $3 was their price.
I think we can expect to be fleeced at a higher rate than that PP

Could they have meant that you have to buy them at the till?

My wife works at Woolies, so I wonder if I will get discount on those. :)

It's how it all starts LC, you get business interested and say that it's costing the taxpayer and then flog it off as it's happened time and time again, and the second part of your question I thought straight away what happened to all the mints we use to have and the perth was the first to come to mind with all the rip off coins they produce and I know it can't be trusted but wiki says the sydney mint got shut down 1926 due to the melbourne and perth mints having better technology and more profitable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sydney_Mint and the melbourne mint is now private https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_Mint

Now the perth mint is a funny set up from what I could find out, it was the third of the royal mints set up in oz and in 1970 the mint transferred from the british gov to the WA gov and then in 1987 a company called gold corporation was formed so I'm not sure if it's private or still owned by the WA gov but here are some links I was looking at but one interesting thing I found out was on the bottom of the wiki where it said "In October 2011, the Perth Mint created the world's largest, heaviest and most valuable gold coin, breaking the record previously held by the Royal Canadian Mint.[5] The coin is approximately 80 centimetres (31 in) in diameter and 12 centimetres (4.7 in) thick, and made of 1,012 kilograms (2,231 lb) of 99.99% pure gold.[6] It features a red kangaroo on the front of the coin and a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the reverse. It is legal tender in Australia with face value A$1 million, but at the time of minting it was valued at A$53.5 million.[7]"

Hope someone find this useless trivia interesting
But I'm sure if you really looked into it you'd find more mints around the world that are now in private hands that use to be gov owned.

Oh and I'm not sure if the PO on Grafton side is private/franchised and not sure when it got sold off but I know the one in South is and we only have two and I wouldn't be surprised if they sell more PO's off as they can't make money for some strange reason or so they reckon and try blaming the lack of letters getting sent due to email but then neglect to mention the high profit on padded bags and what they make from those sales and all the other stuff you can now buy from the PO like mobiles phone, all different sorts of insurances, photo copiers and ink etc, soft toys and all sorts of things just to name a few.

Oh so they say on their website "Much of our network" is operated by private individuals acting as licensees, agents or franchisees.
