I was under the impression that ebay member was selling on consignment for a well-known-on-the-internet Tasmanian collector of errors who has a number of high-end errors. With regards to the double headers there does seem to be quite a lot out there but I wouldn't put genuine credit to any not in a PCGS or NGC slab -there are fakes that PCGS has rejected before.

A PCGS AU55 turned up in my FB post about these:

Massive price reduction on this one when it was relisted

Imagine that!

I wouldn't buy a fake coin.. whether it was made inside or outside the mint.

How does the mint make fake coins? Aren't they authorised by the government to make genuine ones? :dontknow:

The Mint doesn't make fake coins.
Some of the people that work at the Mint make fake coins illegally :dodgy:

Using that definition, I wonder if the 1977 and 1988 50c CoA mules are also fakes...

ausjack

Probably not because there's not heaps around unless someone is sitting on a stash but I doubt it, not like these double headed 5 cents as they seem to be coming out of the woodwork.

With these two mules it is highly probable that these were mistakenly struck using the COA dies and have nothing to do with "Mint Sport".
If they were mint sport I imagine that there would be more of them around than what has been reported so far.
With the double headed coins they HAVE to have been deliberately created.

I'm just guessing here, but I reckon if these are deliberately made.
But they would have to be made on the proof press one at a time, because there's no way they could be fed into the main press which pumps out hundreds at a time turn them over & feed them through again, but done on the proof press easy one at a time turn it over do it again.
Just my guess.

I'm thinking of the presses you can see on the left from the visitors gallery. Depending on the dies and blanks used, these presses can make proofs and sports issues. Are there more presses located elsewhere not visible from the gallery?
