Interesting to see the 1995 Waltzing Matilda "C". There was a CAB article written by Ian McConnelly a few years ago about the Visitor Gallery press dollars for the early years 1991 to 1995. Apparently the Gallery presses were only operational for a limited period in 1995 and can be identified by the positioning of the edge milling in relation to AUSTRALIA in the legend. Anyhow, there needs to be a full section of reeding that falls within AUSTRALIA, starting at the right side of R and ending at the apex of the last A. Could be worth checking, but we know there were thousands minted on the production presses and sold over the Mint counter as well, so more than likely this coin is one of those, but you never know :)

Gee 2014 must have been "the year of the 50c error". I've near lost count of how many different errors there are. (Or there RRRRRRR for Jeff).

Strangely, the first thing that came to mind was a vague similarity to the sights used on old fighters (ie back to the Biggles' days)!

I think the staff at the RAM must have been bored in 2014 and decided to see what they could do error-wise

Thanks for the tip Auto. Will check that out when I have a moment.

I have as part of my coin records, a chart that shows the reeding location of all the $1 coins I have in my collection from 1992 op to the Kangaroo $1 of 2011.

I have mentioned elsewhere in this forum that the position of the reeding in relation to the word AUSTRALIA would play and can play a part in identifying where on what press the coin was minted on.   However I was informed that the position of the reeding is non important so I discontinued the layout but I still scan the reeding position of all my $1 coins for records.

With your comments above Autocoupler, I had better update my plot and get it ready for possible publication here.

If you have a copy of that CAB article it would be nice to read it.

No problems Goldie, will try and dig it out. I know there has been logical denial of the edge milling alignment theory, but in the earlier years as mentioned there wasn't a plethora of coins being processed on the gallery presses, so the likelihood of die replacement was minimal, therefore all coins from these presses are more than likely to display the same edge milling alignment. From memory the article referred to minimal periods of Gallery press operation for some years during the 1991 - 95 period, and in 1995 it was reportedly a matter of just a few weeks.

IMHO in the past there was misinformation that led people to believe the mint mark dollars they were purchasing over the RAM counter were from the gallery presses, which is incorrect. I think it's accepted that these coins were from the production presses.

Here is a photo of the reeding Auto - it seems to gel with your description above.

That's great Pedro :yahoo: No doubt the position of the reeding is correct as per Ian McConnelly's article, so looks like its escape to the pond via the Gallery press has been cut short by your noodle :good:

I will try and get my coin scanned and put up so one can see my alignment.

A wee bit off centre but in saying that, a MULE is welcome anytime.   Well done.

On a previous, now defunct Coin Forum, there was a MULE tally discussion where members could post pictures/scans of MULES found and then a running total.

It was started as a result of misbelieving that only 6,000 were in existence.

I wonder if could be done on this forum.

If not to disprove the 6,000 figure but to give us a count of MULES found.
