I am certain they are not in wa yet. been doing the bank rounds for the last week and now one has got them yet.

on the upside I have 20kg's of 1&2 cent coins $300 in paper notes and $6.50 in face value on round 50's and pre decimal coins

Tried some branches today at Circular Quay in Sydney - no joy.

I think that is a far better pick up than a bunch of painted $2 coins any day :yahoo:

They could do what they did with the 2013, purple, Coronation $2 and sell direct (mail order). Hopefully if they ever do that again they will include decent condition coins and not badly marked ones like they did before.
Swap days are fine only if you live near a major metropolitan centre -no good for us country folk.
Those are good ideas.
When I said distribution I was thinking of the vast majority of the coins - with a view to as many people in as many places getting a chance to find one in circulation.

Someone has got them, ebay has many at very high price.

We need Mark to revive the map, I think.

Here's what I sent to Ross:

I was going to bite my tongue, because I figured I gave you plenty of 'feedback' (read highly opinionated criticisms) already. But, after seeing at least one go up on eBay on Saturday (currently over $94 inc postage) ahead of the embargo, combined with every bank in the eastern suburbs not having any (and being driven nuts by people looking for them), and then being told by an Armaguard crew that they haven't seen them at Essendon, and don't have any to distribute, well...

And then I spotted the notice you put up Wednesday about this... would you agree I raised some valid points about how broken the current arrangements are? And just to drive the point home even more, I found two sacks of 2014 ANZAC $1 during my search yesterday. These have been sitting in Armaguard's warehouse for what, 15 months or so?

I really really think you should reinstate direct purchases of circulating currency, which you discontinued in 2002. The $50 fee was exhorbitant, but at least it was possible to reliably obtain UNC coins without being gouged by people who have an inside track and are able to game the system. Sure its a long way to drive, but my last purchase was 18 sacks of the CoF state coins, and at least I had total control over their handling and they arrived home safe and sound.

Alternatively, you could make bags available direct. Only without the massive handling fees you charged for the coronations. $8 postage for $10 worth of coins was a bit rich I think you'll agree. Especially when the quality was exceedingly poor. Worse even than the ones I got from Armaguard and Chubb.

You could even arrange with Armaguard and the other security companies to deliver a minimum quantity to all of the 6,501 bank branches in the country. Clearly not a sack each, but you could dilute them like you did with the coronations (though perhaps a little less randomly).

All of these solutions would work, and not cost the earth. And any of them would do wonders for your PR, unlike the current fiasco.

I went to a few banks today
the comm bank said they had received one single bag the other day and it got snavelled up quickly

the comm bank staff think they are all being sent to WA for some reason

I am suss that there is 'insider trading' with the companies that distribute them

I think the Chubs at Chubs are getting Chubbier with the "Backhanders" from certain sellers that always seem to have these new issues available on eBay

I'd take that with a grain of salt. No way Armaguard burst a sack open to fish out one bag for them.

One sack maybe. Which would show they're being delivered out of Fyshwick. And presumably the other NSW depots.

Try ringing Armaguard and asking them point blank how many of the 15,000 sacks they got. If we can nail down which depots have stock, we can start focussing on where they're likely to be. I'll drop an email to my friend in Queanbeyan and see if she can check out the banks there for me.

Eh, I was happy knowing they were finger-print free and wouldn't need a rinse in acetone which they couldn't have anyway.

One of the banks I called into yesterday have now got a sign up saying
"We do not have any of the ANZAC $2.00 !!!"
I don't think that was pit up just because of me asking

JeffH

My daughter in law works on the counter at a building society. She called in last night and happened to mention the number of people coming into the branch in the last few days is more than double the usual number -all the extra visitors are asking if they have any of the new $2 coins.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

It was the same with the 2012 one. 2 million coins - 'enough for everyone to get their hands on one'.

edit: the 2013 one rather.

I've never seen such a frenzy for a circulating coin ever.
I understand the frustration from we collectors who have to cop the fact certain people have access to these coins at face value and simply selling them on greedBay for outrageous profits.
Something very wrong about this it's scalping at it's worst
