Picked up ACR 2,going well so far, interesting article on the history/background of ACR from Fred.
I can't remember it from the 1960's,i subscribed to Coin World back then,i also read the multitude of various books that appeared as we headed to Decimal Currency.I first started reading ACR in the 1980's,Greg McDonald was a regular contributer back then.

The article on Fanning Island during WW11 was also interesting,i read a similar article back in the 1960/70's,i'll try and find it.

Overall i enjoyed this issue but as already mentioned it needs more pre 1966 Australian Currency content.

And if ACR doesn't publish it then post it to the ACF coin wiki. Nothing has been posted there in 8+ years and needs reviving by us regulars

Further to my comment the other day above, regarding some research I'm doing into the Melbourne Mint (particularly die production / usage), I was just wondering if anyone has ever seen or had the extract from the Victorian Public Records Office:

DIES ; STOCK OF DIES

VPRS 10219/P0001

I'd really like to know what information is included in the extract, but their system doesn't give you much info at all.

It's all a bit of a lucky dip, but if someone has seen a copy previously they may recall what information it does contain.

I've popped Fred a message as I thought he may have seen it.

I'm happy to order it if it contains what I want, just can't afford to waste $85 on a "hope" if I can help it.

Latest issue is out now.
An email notification would be nice.

Hi MrT and all.
Yep my May issue came in the mail on Friday.
Interesting stuff but no articles by that old geezer fred lever.
I'll have to stir him along a bit!

Fred.

Yes,get back to it Fred, same old compliant, not enough pre-Dec. articles, shame Ian McConnelly isn't with us, he had a pre-Dec article in every Month back in the early 2000's.

Crellin's article on the 1930 rang a bell,i had read about the Sydney Paper Boys on a retainer to find them and found the article on the W/end looking for something else,1984!!!.
I think the writer has his dates mixed up however,i;'m sure it was a Dealer that insigated it and it was post 1945.
When i have the time i'll have another go at finding the Newspaper article of the time.

Hi Basil, good find.
I had submitted an article to ACR updating my 1930 penny information and part of that is a list appearances and mentions  of the coin over the years. I have listed 39 magazine references from  ACR, CAB etc.
Now we have number 40!
I simply missed it.

The ACR article may not be printed any time soon  as Andrew's article on that subject trumped me a bit.
Sometimes a coin article may take up to a year to be printed, or not at all!
Its up to the magazine editors to select what they think is best and as I am freelance and not on contract its pot luck sometimes.
I dont want to be contracted and have to meet dead lines, I did all that crap in my working life, never again.
I just type away, compose articles and send.
Rejection is part of writing.

I have had tech articles appear 2 years after writing usually based on a lab project of some sort.
I have to keep those tech projects on a workshop shelf  with a working file so I can re-fresh myself on what the hell it was, when the editors' questions start to come in!
Same with coin articles, a file on each article is backed up  in memory sometimes along with an album containing the actual coins featured so i can do a re-fresh.
Guys ask me questions about coins , honestly if i worked on the coin in question  more than a couple of months ago i'm blank!

Cheers, Fred.

Hi Fred..Crellin's article also trumped us,almost exactly the time line we were working on,i need access to the NSW NS newsletters to get some facts, may yet happen.

Fred you could rejig/revamp some of your old articles, new generation of readers from the early ones, not everyone is into obscure World Coins/Notes,as i posted before it seems in some cases the author is trying to show how much they know rather than write an informative article.
The same applies to the Mints 'popcorn' releases getting more space than they deserve but i guess its an advertisers thing..

June issue out,a couple of interesting articles from Fred.
As an aside on the 1926 penny mintage stats,a couple(more than 1) of researchers back in the 1960's stated they felt part of the Mintage were dated 1925.
No proof/evidence presented that i have seen but neverless its a possibility.
I'll try and find the original articles, not in Aust. Coin World magazines from back then,i went thru them the last couple of days.

On the subject of 1926 Penny die-cracks,CR article by Fred, the half also had a variety of die-cracks,not sure what the Mints were doing to cause this.

Mister T

That's in the post I'm guessing? Doesn't look like it's online yet, although a bunch of old CAB back issues are now.

Mister T

Latest Australian Coin Review is out and Australasian Coin and Banknote Magazines back to May 2021 are available.

Mister T

October Australian Coin Review is out now.
I haven't really been keeping track but it seems like mid-month is when it's released online. Is anyone getting it delivered?

The new publisher dismisses any feedback about this magazine which definitely needs improvement in many ways
I will not be resubscribing
