I don't know if that is good or bad news. He didn't say anything about the possibility of licensing a privately owned competitor, a-lah-New Zealand. Is that on the menu or not?
So, mint not mentioned eh. That may not mean a fig -just waiting for a quite time before stirring the bee hive again.

robbiegal

yeah
I think it's bad news cause there's no news

if they privatise the Mint I will NEVER buy a nice decimal coin ever again from them

robbiegal

900 jobs to go
guess they will be more efficient?
or more profitable

When Mr Fahour talks about "postal services reform", one of the other changes expected is a move to persuade the Federal Government to cut Australia Post's daily mail delivery service obligation to three, or even two, days a week.

trout

Lately the service has been rather disappointing and bloody slow.
Now they want to shed 900 people, Unbloodybelivable :dash1:

Then again Chooks seem to lay better after you have taken one of them  for Sunday lunch

ouch

I tell ya
it is giving me the hebbie jebbies - all these job losses

I for one, won't be buying all that many coins for quite some time now

Basil

Apparently 6 days a week parcel delivery from contractors is on the agenda,Union lady on the ABC this morning saying top level management Salaries are out of proportion and need adjusting before job losses.

robbiegal

oh clever
they do the audits
AFTER they announce the slice and dice

I hate to see jobs go

we constantly have salary rationalising where I work and 'productivity' agreements
maybe if they consider those moves they might tighten up the internal budget and maybe save some jobs

parcel post makes a good profit & I can't understand why they don't combine both revenue sources when talking about aussie post profits and  losses

anyways, if enough people lose their jobs aussie parcel post will have less work coming in as well

we need workers to keep the economy ticking

JeffH

Less service for same money or same service for more money! Take your choice. Australia Post plans three-tier mail delivery

Funny, but a search of Australia Post website didn't give me anything about this. I am surprised...NOT.

Got a birthday card in the mail for my daughter today from the grandparents, 70c stamp, over thickness and larger than small letter size and there's a stamp on it saying underpaid postage paid by the sender. I'm guessing a letter is awaiting them with a 70c (the underpayment) postage charge and a $5? fine.

Does anyone know what that fine is? I was googling around and I don't think it's that much. Petty really.

I sent away 18 packages a couple of weeks ago and 4 of these have gone missing.
This is the first time I have had a problem like this.
They weren't scanned in at the receiving post office and have simply vanished into thin air.

I always put a tracking sticker on before I take them and wait at the counter to see they have been scanned.
I suspect trout will be doing the same hereafter.

If a parcel goes missing or arrives damaged you can still make a claim even if the parcel is uninsured. Australia Post has the discretion to pay compensation but you have to make a good case (proof of posting is a start) and keep up a barrage of questions about the progress of your claim -I think the "squeaky gate" syndrome applies here.
I did receive nominal compensation once in this situation. Heard later, unofficially, that an employee was dismissed a little later and the spate of missing parcels subsided at the particular post office. probably good supporting evidence for my claim although I didn't know it at the time.

Trout! you never leave a registered post item with Australia post until they have scanned it! its what you pay for. I have stood in a post office and demanded they scan a package in before I would leave. it got me dirty looks but I assure you it is better than the alternative which is them losing the item!

I do the same but most of the tellers around here know me.   No dirty looks.
