Quote from: 'translateltd' pid='127671' dateline='1674361115'A medal issued for the 1906-07 International Exhibition in Christchurch NZ (Morel 1906-07/45) carries the maker's mark B & K MEL.  I'm assuming that MEL is short for Melbourne, hence my query here.  Do the initials B&K ring a bell with anyone in this context?

I'm filling in a few gaps in the list of makers and manufacturers in Leon Morel's catalogues of NZ Medallic Commemoratives for inclusion in the ongoing project to issue a new, updated edition chapter by chapter.

Any likely leads on the above appreciated.

Here's an image of the medal with the initials at the base on the reverse: https://www.ma-shops.com/colonial/item.php?id=2240

Thanks people but lets not get carried away.  It cost me nothing other than a couple of trips to the Post Office.  There may not be many of them around at the moment but mintage is 2,000,000 so they won't be scarce.

Besides I was lucky enough to win PPH's hat draw earlier in the week.

A very sick 1999 YOOP $1

The obvious rim cud and slightly rotated die:

Cuds within the emblem and wreath

And doubling under the bottom legend, "1 DOLLAR" and bottom of wreath.

AJ, that is pretty consistent with most Navigators.  It will not show you the lane you need to be in for every intersection.  In fact only a few of the major ones and, around Brisbane, I've only seen it at half a dozen spots.  Unfortunately the I/s where you have to be in the right lane to turn left (and vice versa) isn't one of them.  That I/s is one where the cars in the right lane turning left stay at ground level and the cars turning right go up a ramp to the left and over an overpass.  Those lanes are separated by a steel and cement barrier.  I once saw a car that couldn't make up their mind and went straight into the barrier and was up in the air at a 45 degree angle.

The general principle is that if you need to turn left then be in the left lane unless told otherwise.

They are pretty reliable but do make mistakes so always use your common sense especially when putting the address in.  Look at the ETA for your trip because you could be heading to the same address in a different suburb.  If you know your trip is about 15 minutes but the navigator is telling you that it is 50 minutes then you're going the wrong way.  Also don't take the advised speed limit as gospel.

You'll get used to it.

Seems similar to marks I saw on US banknotes whilst travelling around Asia.  Apparently currency converters stamp notes that they have confirmed as genuine so as to avoid counterfeits.

Security bags of these started appearing in Brisbane today (Commonwealth Bank at Mitchelton).

I'm off to the Sunshine Coast tomorrow but if the bank still has them on Thursday I'm happy to get some for those chasing bags at cost + postage.

Friday I'll be drunk due to the arrival of my 3rd grandchild so may have to try and post them Thursday.

Hey thanks guys.  My interest is in predecimal silver coins so they will be a welcome addition.  Certainly better than the examples I have.

Many thanks to Markn and PPH for running the comp.
