Don't tell me that lovely coin has been cleaned/dipped!
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

No.... surely not? Don't you recognise a bargain from a reputable 100% positive feedback pillar of the community when you see one? These are the rare bronze pattern proofs struck to the highest standards and lovingly restored after being found in an old Mars-bar wrapper! :dodgy:

I'm sure that's the 1920 Obverse Type 87 with the Wolfe Creek Crater below bottom scroll.

Absolute bargain!

Assuming the coin is real (which is most likely isn't) the grade would be AU55 or so.  But it's probably not real anyway, the king's hair looks like spaghetti.

Yes.  It is my feedback.  I'd forgotten he'd screwed me over before. I bought a coin on a BIN from him.  And it was a 1777 8 reales too (probably the same one).  Here's his first email to me:

**************

Hi Mark,

Im really sorry, please don't pay for this coin as ive accidently put the wrong price in I wanted to sell it for and thus don't want to sell it well below its actual value.

Thanks

And my response.  Clearly I wasn't having a happy Mark day.

**************

Dear saxually_active,

What do you consider it's actual value to be? You didn't even grade the coin so I am bemused as to how you arrived at it's actual value anyway. Grade is EVERYTHING in value. Just because you've found one auction result somewhere for a high price doesn't mean your coin is worth that.

I'll be opening a dispute for this item and giving you a negative for failure to sell. I really don't see what the problem is, you listed it at what I consider to be a fair price.
- Mark

And the final bit of correspondence.

******************************

Dear Mark,

Yes I looked at other auctions on ebay and know nothing about coins, but you will be pleased to know I have taken the coin to a valuer and it has been identified as a fake. Lucky for you your money has been refunded and for the fact that it wasn't examined before you decided to buy it, with such little information you would be now be at a loss of $190.00.

So somehow the "fake" has ended up in a APCGS slab.  If it's a fake well shame on them and him for trying to sell it.  If it's not a fake then he stiffed me and shame on him and shame on APCGS for so badly undergrading it.
