Why is it that the humble two dollar coin seems to have the most damage?
Just a few that I have rescued & given a safe home to.
Hitting with hammer seems to be the preferred means of torturer for this unfortunate coin.

Maybe its because these are such small heavy coins they tend to fall out of your hand more regularly than any other coin.
Overall I think these coins wear pretty well, Have a look at the first minted ones 1988 and see how well they are faring considering the amount of circulation these coins see.

next to silver coins These little blighters feel great when you have a handful of them:yahoo:

Easy solution AJ just carry $50 worth of 20 cent coins in your pocket for a day (Make sure you have a sturdy belt on) :laugh2:
One handful of $2 coins is far better I recon.
Bloody 1 and 2 dollar notes , what's next Bring back the 1 and 2 cents :Laugh2:

The Yanks still run around with 1 and 2 dollar notes and still have the almost worthless 1 cent coin as well ( they must recon it is worthless cos they make em out of Zinc now)

The best thing we ever did was to get rid of the small denominations.
At least ALL our coins are made of decent metal and not plated crap or steel :wavemulticolor::yahoo:

Mister T

It is (or was until the Remembrance Day coin) an uninteresting denomination and it's value means that it gets out and about instead of sitting in a jar.

I would say that these WILL see a lot of circulation, Most people don't even look at their $2 coins and are unaware that the poppy coin even exists.
Unlike the Captain Cook 50 cent coins that were hoarded for a while these won't be hoarded an a large scale.

OK here we go  I do, that's how I pay for things..postie doesn't like me paying the bills in coin but stuff'em it's still money :) I find it easier to loose the bloody things where as notes I find harder except the plastic bastards that insist on stickin together..bloody things :(

And you don't have to bring them back as I never stopped using them..the bank was most upset a few weeks ago when I told them to shove their credit card and I paid them 88 cent to shut them up and the girl first said "you can't do that" so I gave the look :dodgy: she soon took the money :mocking: it's still legal :good: and they've bought back everything else from when I was a kid so why the hell not..they were much better times anyway :)

No comment on the sepo's :mocking:

When we had small change I could buy stuff but now I can't. And getting rid of them only makes the bank and the like richer cause they round up but you don't get the money and that's why if something is $19.98 I will put the $20 into the persons account so the bastard banks don't just take it..so many things werer bought in just to rip us off..look at super and things like that..sorry but I hope you get my point  :friends:

And if I had my way we'd bring back older coins with real silver and quality metals :good:

81 royal wedding was the same..everyone put them away

I think both the $1 ans $2 wear horribly. Theyre too soft.

I think it may be due to the use in Pokies that the $1 is well worn and that these 2 coins are widely used in commerce.
The 5 and 10 cent coins tend to be in better condition whereas the other denominations spend a lot of time getting smashed into vending machines.
The 1 and 2 dollar coins ARE a bit softer because they are basically a copper coin but I recon they are great.

Australian coin

Haha no one thinks about the poor stripers, paper notes are good for them, can you imagine people throwing coins at them, bahahaha

Goldseeker

Maybe because the $2 coin is so small, falls out of pockets and gets hit with lawn mowers is the cause for a lot of damage.

I don't like them and when I receive chance, I ask for larger coins instead.

Your a shocker AC, didn't even think of that..good one 99 :good:

I don't have the problem yet but I notice the oldies get lost with them thinking they're a dollar..to them I suppose they're all just small gold coins, I've had my nan do it and had to say that she's giving $2 out as $1 so really they should have been bigger :) and ya might have more chance of knockin AC out as it sounds like the $2 just don't cut it :winkextra:

The $2 has too small a surface area, and are not very counterfeit proof. The Kiwis get confused with them. I have got a few Swedish 10 Kronors that are the same size as these. But I accept them as a fact of life, and the Reserve Bank wont change them.

Mate.
The Kiwis get confused with just about everything :laugh2:
The $2 coin gets bashed and bruised because it is a success as a circulating coin and gets heavily used, simple as that
