Mister T

I noticed in IAG auction 103 lots 1654 and 1655 - two apparently prototype 1966 proof sets. Not many details but it seems like the first time they've been offered?

IAG is a long-standing, reputable house (40+ years) led by expert numismatist Paul Hannaford, and they are well-regarded for handling significant Australian collections.

I was shown the second set (1655) soon after it was discovered. The coins are certainly genuine non frosted proofs struck in Canberra (could tell that as they had two eye lashes - Royal Mint coins have just one eye lash). I'd never heard of this set before but there was a lot going on at the RAM (remember this was the Henderson era) that wa snever recorded.
