What do people think about Australia Post's Impressions releases?

To me mostly they seem like a waste of money, over priced and over hyped.

Do any of our members buy a few, some, a lot or even all of their issues and what do you think about what you get?

Basilstate

I stay away from all the 'bubblegum' type releases, the Golden Goose springs to mind.

Punters are slow learners, neighbour was devestated when she went to sell her deceased Husbands Coin collection, amongst them were multiple RAM Silver coins(she sold me all the pre-dec) from the 1980/90's.
She spent a day travelling around the Sydney Dealers, all they offered was the Silver value, around A$33 for the ounce Coins, she knew the purchase price which was double/triple what they offered, she thought they would have increased in value.

gweidion

I hope you told her to put them up on eBag cause she'd probably get more.

jens coins

I get the coloured coins from the GACH as is is cheaper than buying one on secondary market.
The price has gone up significantly this year compared to last year.

No,by the time Ebay takes it 15% its not worth the time and trouble.

Last i heard she was giving them to her Nieces and Nephews, over A$2000 in Silver Coins so too much for me to purchase above spot.

Although some RAM issue NCLT Coins increase in value the vast majority don't,Silver Coins in their little boxes look impressive but are a poor investment IMO,just buy a bar of silver if you can't afford Gold.

gweidion

Agreed, very few of those NCLT silver coins are worth the mark up, particularly the Perth Mint ones.
I'd rather buy silver bars also.

I'm going to try for one of the coin hunt coloured ones as well. And yes they seem a bit dear.

Basilstate

Gweidion,i've been watching this Coin to see what it/if it sells for.I have a a few from the early 1990's, its over an ounce of Silver and a attractive Coin.
Retail,IIRC, was A$84 ($86?) and now the seller can't get $40 for it.Dealers will pay Silver spot price.
Its a all a con especially when the major USA dealers pay a fraction of our costs for these NCLT Coins.

So I see the morons at Australia Post couldn't run a chook raffle.
Logged in at 8:30 (7:30 my time). Instantly congested.
Finally got in, put my item in the check out. Had selected TWO as allowed. It comes back saying maximum is two. Multiple attempts including changing the quantity to ONE and it kept saying maximum is two.
Then eventually it gave up entirely. Nearly an hour and a half wasted.

The Australia Post Online Shop is temporarily
unavailable whilst we undertake maintenance.
We expect all our services to be available again shortly.
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

And Basilstate, I bought 4 (different ones) of these from the recent Downies? auction for $130 (plus buyers premium of 22%) and now wondering if it was a mistake.
As long as silver recovers I guess it doesn't matter. So glad I didn't buy these when they were released.

They retailing for around A$50-55,buy price for dealers is around A$30-33 earlier this year.May be diferent now.
Its not just the Bird series, its across the board with these silver coins,i should know, purchased heaps in the 1990's when i had the funds.
Major shock when Ebay started in Oz. around 2000,they were selling for less than i paid for them.
Same with Mint Proof yearly issues although they are making a comeback on Ebay.

Talking about AP being congested,i'm filling in time whilst i wait on the Mints E-shop,half hour queue at the moment, good luck to punters tomorrow.

gweidion

Why is there a queue on RAM's eshop today? I just checked. 41 minutes just to get in.

Ah Okay, I see. Just got the email.

The queue is a good idea but I see these morons have no idea either.
Thank you for waiting, we would like to inform you that  the allocation of the Australian Dinosaurs - Uncirculated Six Coin Set 2022 Legends Ballot has been sold out
Did you get yours Basilstate?
I got to look at the box. Why would they send that email saying you can log in and buy one unless this was extras above the ballot number?
I haven't gotten a Legends set since I got the first three or four in a row.

And still no headway with AusPost...
It now just says
503 Service Temporarily Unavailable

And finally success at AP. Two and a half hours of stuffing about.

jens coins

I waited for over 2 hours on the phone and managed to get the 2 coin coloured crux set. It was sold out on the website before I could even load the page.
Also managed to get Legends set.

Pedro

There must be a considerable number of Australia Post customers who were browned off that AP's website didn't function for about 2.5 hours this morning.

From my previous experience with the RAM queuing system I am expecting the same tomorrow.  :( Log in, select items, go to checkout and the website throws a wobbly. Wait ages. System returns. Items no longer in basket and now sold out. One unhappy camper. Just to top it off the RAM responds to your concerns by suggesting that you should have gone through a dealer (had already tried that with no success as well)!

Pedro

Basilstate

RAM's eShop servers down,if they couldn't cope yesterday there is no chance today.

Phone number engaged since early this morning.

Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

gweidion

None of my usual dealers have any stock of the $2 10th Anniversary Poppy coin. If they are minting 60,000 with limits of 1 per person there should be HEAPS to spare.
Might try RAMs stupid call centre.
