Annoying - wonder if they'll go to the Ekka instead.

Mister T

I went along yesterday - quite busy and quite a few young people too.
No dealers had junk boxes I could see which was a shame.

I went today after lunch. At least a couple of dealers had boxes of coins, loose and slabbed, that said make an offer. I blew my money sending a banknote grading submission. Had a look around, my eyesight doesn't bode well for looking through glass cases at slabbed coins so I wasn't overly interested. Saw some nice (overpriced) error and star banknotes but I don't have money to waste on those.
Nearly ended up in the model train show up the road. Probably would have been just as good and much cheaper.

On Saturday morning at least the model train show was exceptionally busy.

I went along on Saturday morning. My only reason for going was the MOR Koala Privy, the queue for it and other ANDA offerings was long when I arrived and considered giving it a miss. Glad I hung in there despite periodic announcements that some items had become unavailable.

Was a good crowd as well and one of the local dealers I spoke to was quite happy.

At the risk of being a whinger, the venue lacks atmosphere, poorly lit with little natural light, reminds me of the dour and uninspiring feelings of late night losers at a casino. Just my opinion.

I then crossed the road and soaked up the model railway exhibition  :yahoo:
As we age we lose three things, one is our memory and arrrrr I've forgotten the other two!

Pedro

Is anyone able to advise what the issue prices were of the 4 overprint PNCs that were available at the show?

Pedro

I didn't take a lot of notice but I vaguely recall seeing the RAF one and think it was either $19.95 or $34.95. Sorry that isn't a lot of help. I had zero money on me even if I had wanted one.

Pedro

Thanks gweidion, the higher price is probably it as the standard RAAF PNC went for $24.95.

I admire your willpower in going to a coin show with no money  :)

I had money when I went but used it all and then some on a PCGS submission of banknotes with Imperial. When I worked out the price I used an old sheet, only to find out they were charging $5 more per banknote. Hence being broke and having to transfer extra money through.

I find it frustrating that certain people only go to ANDA events as opportunists just to purchase limited new releases for resale

I doubt many of them even are even collectors who would even visit a table of the attending dealers

I think there are more speculators in our hobby than collectors these days. It doesn't make a good experience for legitimate collectors but it does drive the prices UP which attracts more speculators.

The only way I can see it changing is if either there is a restriction placed on purchases (one per person), they would need to be numbered, and then legal action taken against people breaching it like speculators (and dealers) on eBay. That is not going to happen.

The only other way is for all collectors to get together and say well, no matter what comes out in 2022 and 2023 we are NOT buying or collecting them, leaving the speculators holding the bag. If they get burned enough it might put a few off.
I can't see that happening either.

ANDA do have great dealers who go to the effort that's true
eBay Australia are the biggest crooks in the industry who protect the fraudsters

With the Melbourne ANDA Show, (yes I know, wrong title but its the only one I can remember for this show), only a few weeks off again at the Malvern Town Hall.   How are they going to manage the attendance firstly with sellers and then the general public.   I can remember the last time I went there about three years ago the hall was absolutely packed out and one could hardly move.   Now with Covid 19 spreading like an invisible wildfire, how are they going to mange two lots of people as the limit on people in one place is going to be drastically curbed.   I intend to get to Malvern Town Hall between 7-8am and try to be in the front of the queue just in case it is limited to only 50 or 100 people at a time.   I trust the organizers of this show have thought about the crowd limits and if the limit is say 50 people, will that include the sellers/traders and the attending public or what.   It is going to be an interesting event and problem me thinks for the organizers.

The event will go ahead if no more Covid lockdown from Andrews

Yes, I agree that the show will go on but what about crowd limits.   7,000 at a Geelong Footy match, crowd limits at weddings, funerals etc.

Nothing yet about crowd limits at shows.
