Firstly, What? Someone paid $15 for the coin? That's just ridiculous.

Secondly, the paint job on some of the recent $2 wasn't that good either. A trend seems to continue...

If they are making them in different colours, then they are clearly expecting and intending collectors to collect them. If they really wanted them to remain in circulation and not be collected up, then they should make them all the same. Even get rid of the date and issue them in multiple years, so that collectors wouldn't want "one of each".

It seems an odd idea to me, and one that hasn't been clearly promoted. My niece (aged 11) was worried that she might get caught if she was given one and didn't donate it to someone but spent it instead.

I'm wondering if anyone talked to the charities about this.

I will keep a few if I find them but won't be using them for donations -just spend them like any other dollar coin.
I presume the idea is, if you get one in your change at a shop and there is a charity tin on the counter, you drop it in the tin. Then the charity collects the coins, banks them and the bank puts them in change bags to be reissued. If it works there will be quite a big multiplier effect.

I will continue to support my preferred charity, the Royal Society For The Blind Of South Australia Inc. My birthday approaches and this morning I set up a birthday fundraiser on Facebook for them. Whatever is donated I will match. A bit of fun for me and possibly several hundred dollars for the RSB.

Just ridiculous, but if the charities had any sense, they would sell the coins on Ebay and make even more money.

31 coins sold @ $14.95 for each coin. A few buyers bought multiples, but most were single purchases.  :scratch_one-s_head:

All I can say is: can you hear that funny scraping  noise?
That is the sound of an organisation SCRAPING  the bottom of the barrel!
Bereft of ideas. Coins with funny bits of paint on them?
Give me a break. Why dont they put them all on ebay and cut the middleman out?

They need sorting out real fast.
How about getting rid of 5 and 10c pieces for a start?
That would be a better move than putting dobs of art paint on coins.

Why are they minting more coins anyway?
We do not need any more coinage anyway, most of the 1966 coins i see are still within size and weight.
Cash transactions are DEAD.
But that is a seperate issue (pun).

I prefer cash and use it when I can and will continue to do so. I also don't use ATMs, I visit branches of my bank and complain when the mongrels close them.

JeffH

I can relate to that for several reasons. I do use an ATM because the bank charges me to withdraw cash from my account over the counter.

Seriously? Time to change banks. Which of the mongrels is it?

Bags are now $100 each on ebay.

Bags of 20 coins?

So, that would be five times over face value. Reaching an acceptable level. In my opionen, 3x face value is okay for unc condition.

jens coins

Yes bags of 20 = $5 per coin

2 different seller now have them for $100 per bag of 20 coins

JeffH

Most new "different" circulation coins sell for very high prices first week or two. Then price drops dramatically once more start arriving at different bank branches.

First two bags I saw on fleabag they wanted a thousand dollars for. I think they got it too.
I'd consider 3 times face value as reasonable, especially in good condition.
