Does anyone have a circulating and proof 1966 50 cent handy? I was reading https://www.sterlingcurrency.com.au/blog/news-research/decimal-coins-banknotes/the-pattern-australian-silver-50-by-machin/ and looking at https://www.sterlingcurrency.com.au/assets/files/old-images/50CU66OBV.jpg and https://www.sterlingcurrency.com.au/assets/files/old-images/50CP66OBV.jpg it looks like the legend on the proof is further from the rim. I don't have a proof to check myself (and don't want to shell out $200+ for a maybe).

I'll still post here but i surely hope this Forum matures over the coming years.
Posting here after the Stamp Forums is like going to a different country, but still, they have been going for over 20 years.

Mate,it took me half an hour to find them and dig them out and then you disappeared.
Brother said you may have been caught up in the fires or something.
Anyway, plenty of images on Google but if you can't find anything suitable i will get them out again but they are slabbed so images will probably be not so good.

No, no bushfire trouble for me.

I've been looking at images but it's hard to tell - maybe they are the same?

Obviously the fish aren't biting today.
Thinking is dangerous, it makes you think. That\'s why many people avoid it.

Might be a trick of the light but from those images I'd say the letters are further from the rim in the proof. Expanding those images up and looking at the T in Australia it is definitely further from the edge.

Yeah I think you're right - hard to say with the different finish and different lighting though.

I got a look at 1966 50c proof and I think it is a trick of the light - the obverses appeared to have the text the same distance from the rim.
